Hi all!
I'm coming up to 38 weeks pregnant now and wanting to start expressing colostrum, I have syringes etc and settled down to start last night and absolutely nothing happened 🙈

Just wondering if anyone has any tips, I Googled and tried the c hold and compressing and releasing but I probably did it for about 20 mins and didn't even get a hint of colostrum. Was just wondering if this is a common issue and it'll build up over time or if I should have at least had something....

Any advice appreciated! Thanks in advance 😁

Get super relaxed so your oxytocin flows. I put on one born every minute and the gorgeous bubs being born and all the happy vibes helped! Try not to put pressure on yourself just try little and often and hopefully it will happen x

Definitely normal to not get anything the first few times, but definitely worth continuing to try a couple of times a day and make sure you do everything you can to feel happy and relaxed, affection from your partner may also help

Heat helps a lot! So do it after a shower maybe or even just a heat pack on your chest. Get lots of breast massage going while applying heat. Massage in circular motions all around the whole breast (remember ducts go the whole way round, sides, underneath etc). Also using your knuckles massage from outer edges of the breast towards the nipple.
Watch lots of videos on expressing technique to make sure you're getting it right, but it is very tricky to get the hang of straight off the bat.
Also as others have said get the oxytocin flowing and try to be nice and relaxed.
It is normal to not get much at the very start. It takes a huge hormone surge after baby is born to really get things going😊

Definitely try after a bath or shower - the heat helps.

The first time I just expressed until I had a drop from each side, I didn't have the syringes or anything to hand to take the pressure off which I think helped me relax.

It gets easier and quicker each time.
