TW: pregnancy

Please can I have some advice?
Having such a rollercoaster pregnancy!!

8th May - 1st scan thought I was 7 weeks based on LMP.
Measured 5 weeks.
Gest sac, yolk sac & fetal pole present.

15th May - 2nd scan
Slight growth of both sacs but no fetal pole

20th May - 3rd scan
EPU booked D&C however when did scan found embryo measuring 2mm + heartbeat

30th May - 4th scan
Embryo measured at 5mm but unsure if heartbeat which was seen was my pulse or baby heartbeat.

Another scan booked for 6th June.

I really need some reassurance on this one or clarification as I feel the EPU are trying to take it easy on me but based on LMP I should be 10 weeks pregnant. I’m so confused!!

@Lomasx What are EPU indicating they think is going on?

They haven't said, this is why I'm so confused!

They've said they think it's worth waiting if there's a chance 🤷🏻‍♀️

Lets assume your dates are wrong.

On the 8th May they suggested you were measuring around 5 weeks gestation, which from what I can tell would be about 2mm in length. You were still measuring about 2mm on the 20th May, so suggests there hasn't been much growth between your first and second scan.

If you measured at 5 weeks on the 8th May, that would mean today you should be measuring at about 8 weeks. At 8 weeks, measuring 5mm would be very much smaller than expected (about 1.5cm from most sources I've seen).

It sounds very much like unfortunately things aren't progressing as would be expected. Have they checked your hcg levels?

I'm really sorry you're stuck in limbo. It sounds like the are waiting to see what happens, but reading between the lines it doesn't sound that promising I'm afraid. Was this a wanted pregnancy?

Babies don’t grow along a straight line. But I think there’s no knowing until your scan. Unfortunately there’s nothing you can do but when I had early bleeding I found that quite reassuring.

I do know a relative was told her baby had died and they chose to wait / let it pass naturally and she was born healthy. But this was 30 years ago when technology wasn’t as accurate.

You need to wait until your scan to see if there’s a heartbeat. Sending you my best thoughts. I know the wait feels like ages.

Thank you for your response!

They said it's pointless to check my HCG and just to go back for a scan.

When I went on 8th May they suggested measuring 'around 5 weeks' but didn't give exact dates so really unsure what's going on!

Baby is very wanted. I've had 2 missed miscarriages previously and I tracked my periods etc on Flo for this pregnancy Xx

@Lomasx I appreciated is so difficult for them to get an accurate measurement so early in pregnancy. Trying to look for that glimmer of hope, but if we take that you measured 2mm on the 20th May (and lets call that measuring 5 weeks), that would put you at around 6 weeks today, and the measurement on 5mm wouldn't be much smaller than expected. Is there any possibility your dates are wrong and you might only be 6 weeks pregnant?

So sorry to hear of your previously MMCs. Have you discussed with you any investigations etc if this does turn out not to be a viable pregnancy?

I am too, I appreciate you looking for it too haha! I had my first positive pregnancy test on the 10th April. Last period 20th March!

My HCG levels were so low but began climbing. I just don't know.

I am in contact with Tommys fertility clinic and they've had me prescribed progesterone. They will run tests if this pregnancy is not viable.

Drs have also found that my thyroid level has raised during pregnancy so they have put me on medication for that too.

@Lomasx Any chance you've had a very early loss from the pregnancy test on the 10th April, but then become pregnant on another cycle without realising it?

Its great you've been able to access some resources already. I've experienced a chemical pregnancy but no other losses, so can't imagine how difficult that is, but I've been through IVF after not conceiving using IUI with donor sperm, and it can be a really long slog. Really hoping this does work out for you this time.

I haven't had any other bleeding other than slight spotting so unsure how I could have had an early loss, I have been asked this before and this would make the most sense but I'm just so unsure!

Ah the IVF journey is a difficult one from what I've read, fingers crossed for you!

@Lomasx Hope you get some more certain answers at your next scan. Thanks we've done really well, I have a 20 month old, and 21 weeks pregnant (took a long time to get DD, but first FET we did this time worked!)

I wouldn't think much unless you start bleeding or there is definitely no growth or heartbeat. It's possible to have scans that don't show as much as they should.
