Frequent urge to pee but I don't always need it

I'm currently 10+1 and had an early scan at 8 weeks which was all fine and saw a heartbeat.

I've definitely been peeing more which I know is normal but the last couple of days I find myself with a more frequent (probably every 30-40mins) urge to pee. Most of the time, I do pee but sometimes it's only a small amount of I sit on the loo for 5-10mins before I can actually get anything out, it's not every time and sometimes I do genuinely need a normal wee. Is this normal or should I speak to my GP/midwife about it?

I've not had any other abnormalities, it doesn't hurt to pee, no blood or anything like that so I'm not sure it's a urine infection, unless it's early stages of one. Has anyone else experienced this?

Sounds like a UTI ring 111 or your GP first thing. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I’ve been like that since week 10 lol currently week 30 lol joys of being pregnant

Hey OP. I’ve had this from about 18 weeks, had numerous UTI tests all clear! It’s just a symptom of pregnancy of thinking you might pee yourself 🤣

Peonies12 · 26/05/2024 21:03

I’ve had this on and off throughout, GP told me it wasn’t a concern. Your midwife will test for infection at each appointment

Thanks everyone! That's reassuring to know it's not just me. Any tips for not letting it drive me crazy? 😂

I did contact 111 but was told to get a non-urgent GP appointment as a precaution so good to know it's nothing urgent and probably completely normal.

Agree it sounds like UTI, call doctors or 111.

Ask your GP to do a dip test incase it is a UTI but I’ve had so many tests and nothing. The only thing that gets me through it is knowing I don’t actually need a wee so I can ‘hold it’ so to speak. It’ll get to the point where you can’t hold it anymore though like peeing every half hour at night 🤣 I’m 32+4 and up every half hour / hour. Look forward to that lol

@AimeeLou84 thanks, I'll make an appointment after the weekend and get them to check. Gosh, every 30mins through the night doesn't sound fun. Good luck for the last few weeks!

Pelvic floor exersizes may help strengthen the muscles in the meantime, so try and remember to do them whenever you can!

Because of the increasing womb size, our organs end up all over the place, making it hard to fully empty the bladder when you wee. I’m 23 weeks now and literally will have a wee, stand up to flush and feel like I need a wee again 😂. I’ve got two ways of dealing with it - one is to do a weird rocking motion on the toilet to try to get it all out, and the other is to drink as much water as I can so there is a constant “new” stream of clean wee coming through to avoid infections from manky bits hanging around in there!
