KIT Days

I’ve finally managed to get in touch with my employer and they’ve now asked for me to pop in for a “chat”. I’m on maternity until August, they refused to answer whether I had KIT days so I assumed I didn’t have any and after several times trying to contact them. My question is, should I or shouldn’t I being getting paid for going into work? I’ve currently agreed to come in for said “chat” which is obviously a meeting as they’ve advised some business changes have occurred but I don’t have childcare cover arranged for now, it’s arranged for the end of maternity so my baby will be coming along and I won’t be staying long. As you can tell from my post, I’m about done with the stress I’ve been put through by them, pregnant and after.

Just to recommend an organisation called Pregnant then screwed.

Are you in a union? Can you take anyone with you for the "chat"? Xx

I’m not an HR person and I’m sure someone will come along with more experience than me but my understanding is that yes everyone is entitled to KIT days but they’re agreed between the individual and employer. Attending a meeting would count as working, and therefore a KIT day so you should be paid? https://maternityaction.org.uk/advice/keeping-in-touch-days/

Based on your post I’d say you should get some professional advice ahead of the meeting though, as a PP said Pregnant Then Screwed have a helpline and would be able to talk you through your rights.

I'm pretty sure you need to confirm your kit days in advance of taking them and agree with HR.

And if it's just a chat surely you can do that over the phone.

@trampoline123 that’s my thoughts exactly. It was actually my Husband that spoke to them as they’ve been ignoring me for months, and said could I come in when my Husband said is that for a meeting? The response was oh no, we’d really like to see her for a chat and a coffee. The chat and coffee is to discuss business changes, so that’s a meeting. Also, there is no HR… tried to confirm KIT days several months ago up until April.
