9 weeks and insane bloating/constipation - help?!

Hello! 9 weeks pregnant, first time mum here, and the bloating/constipation is driving me crazy. I feel absolutely gigantic and so uncomfortable! This picture was taken first thing this morning (admittedly after drinking a can of Diet Coke in bed, which is the only thing that helps with the nausea). Is it just me or is this excessive?

I’ve been taking magnesium and probiotics along with my standard prenatal for the past few weeks, but it doesn’t seem to have done much. I eat pretty well, love vegetables. Have upped my fruit intake a bit to try to get things moving but no luck.

I have my first hospital appt and an early scan next week - in the meantime I guess I’m looking for reassurance, your experiences, and any advice for relief!

Get yourself some movicol or fybogel, both safe in pregnancy and can be bought over the counter,
Best to get on top of constipation early and before you get bigger to help avoid pelvic floor problems and haemorrhoids!

I did not know constipation could cause pelvic floor issues! I’ll go to the pharmacy today, thanks.

Kiwi fruits are good!

Bugdem123 · 26/05/2024 21:07

Bran flakes, kiwi, pears (both with skin on), oranges and lots and lots of water are all helping me but it's hard work to keep on top of it and like you I'm so bloated that I look about 6 months gone and I'm only 11 weeks.

I’m so glad it’s not just me.

Also, you can eat kiwi skin?!?!? Bloody hell. What about the hairy prickly bits??

Bloating is normal because of all the hormones in pregnancy but you need to make sure you are drinking enough water and getting enough fibre for the constipation .

Bugdem123 · 27/05/2024 08:15

@Mary2024 yeah you can eat the skin! Once you start chewing it's actually okay and there's loads of fibre in it.

Water, kiwis, lots of prunes and prunes juice.

I see you're eating lots more fruit and veg. Just careful to go easy on bananas, they constipate you.

I was recommended Lactulose for constipation which I found useless. It got quite serious and I ended up in a&e where the doctor recommended Laxido (can be bought over the counter) which has been much better. That was later in pregnancy and I'm on lots of meds for sickness which has added to the constipation, so hopefully it'll be different for you.
So would definitely recommend Laxido if you need it. I usually add cordial or squash to it to make it taste better.
Good luck with your pregnancy.
