Up and down measurements with gestational diabetes and taking metformin

At 32 weeks my babies AC was measuring on 98th due to gestational diabetes and FL was also high end of average, I was put on metformin and been for another scan today at 36 weeks and EFW is now on 48th percentile. In a month there hasn’t been much growth on either AC or FL and they weren’t able to get HC measurements due to babies position. I’ve been booked in for an induction at 38 weeks now due to little growth and I’m just wondering has anyone been through something similar? Is it possible that it’s due to being on metformin? I’m shocked that the growth hasn’t been too much and I’d rather have him out sooner rather than later so I’m happy to be induced but now I’m worried there’s something wrong.

Hey hun. I’m 31+6 and have had GD for about 6 weeks now. Started on metaformin about 3 weeks ago due to severe poly (36cm!! Should be 24cm max). I had a scan with Fetal medicine last week and my amniotic fluid had gone back down to normal (21cm) which they assume is due to the metaformin. However, my baby girl is measuring on the 98th percentile for all 3 measures. They put this down to the GD. I have a scan booked in for next week to see if she’s slowed down which they mentioned is a possibility due to the metaformin taking over. It can be normal for growth to slow down and isn’t a bad thing I’d still within the ‘recommended’ percentile. My belly has gone down massively since the metaformin has reduced the amniotic fluid so I can’t quite believe I have a potentially bit baby girl inside me lol

Thank you, I suppose that makes sense. I just can’t believe how much he hasn’t grown after being told he was absolutely huge and I’m just worried there’s something wrong now but like you say it’s all within the lines and nothing out of the ordinary. He’s about 6lb4 at the moment EFW and I’m 36+3 which doesn’t sound really small to me to be honest x

No that isn’t small at all. 6-7lb I think is the average now and he’s still got a couple of weeks to go. My little girl was 4.8lb last week. I’m panicking incase she is still getting big the wait for next weeks scan is dragging. If there’s anything more stressful than pregnancy im yet to experience it! X

Yeah and I suppose i get to meet him a bit earlier so it’s something to get excited for. I totally agree and I hope everything goes well for you. It is one big worry! I was worrying the same and I’ve gone straight from worrying he’s too big to now worrying he’s not big enough - can’t win lol x
