5 weeks & bleeding :(

Hey guys, so a week ago we found out we were expecting (4 weeks), we then went on holiday to Cyprus and yesterday (week 5) I started bleeding :( started as very faint pinkish tinged when I wiped and has now progressed into what only looks to be a normal period for me. I am in limbo, being abroad not helping at all (I.e healthcare, not being with family etc).
we are blessed to already have 2 beautiful children but our hearts really wanted this third baby :(
just looking to see if anyone has any advice, I have no clue what to do now, what to look out for, who to call etc. we aren’t home for another few days so I’m assuming I’ll have to wait till I’m home, but this only makes things worse as I just feel so sad.
thanks guys xx

@AmieB really sorry to hear this - must be so tough, especially whilst away from home. When I lost a pregnancy at 4+5 it was just like a period and pregnancy tests turned negative straight away. Can you get hold of any pregnancy tests that you would be able to easily interpret whilst away?

Sometimes bleeding can occur in early pregnancy and just be random and all fine so fingers crossed for you. 💕

AmieB · 20/05/2024 17:49

@SnookyPook its funny because a day or two prior to the bleeding I took a test, purely because I had packed one and was curios and the line was super faint, fainter than when we first found out, in my heart then I knew something was odd and the bleeding started last night :( xxx

I’m just not really sure if I needs to be confirmed by someone, do I need to do anything? I feel like I can’t just close off the pregnancy without some closure? Chucked my pregnacare tablets away this morning in upset, then I think but what if …? I’m so in limbo it’s awful xx

I am really sorry you're going through this. It can be really heartbreaknig.

Unfortunately, there's nothing they can do at this stage. When I was in the same situation, they told me to watch out for bleeding. If it gets really heavy or very painful, contact them. Otherwise, test in a few days or basically until it gets negative (if it does). With my miscarriage, the spotting very quickly progressed into a heavy bleed and everything came out quickly. Basically looked like bigger clots. The tests started getting faint right away but lingered on being faint for about a week or two.

I must also say, with my successful pregnancy, I bled on and off for weeks. And it turned out fine. So unless your tests starts to get lighter and then the line disappears, there's no way to confirm until much later. I think week 6-7 is the earliest they can see anything on the scan.

AmieB · 20/05/2024 18:54

@contentsmayb thank you. I was thinking about doing a clear blue digital once home and just keep using those to check for negative/positive and seeing how that pans out. The not knowing is just the worst, clinging onto all hope but also knowing in my gut I’ve lost it :( xxx

There should be pharmacy's while u away might be worth going and picking up a test x

AmieB · 20/05/2024 19:15

@WiseDog i did get one a couple of days ago and the line was really faint, this was before the bleeding started. I’ve asked around and they don’t have the digital ones here and I feel like I need to see the word to believe either way if you get me? I’m home in a few days so going to test then :( xx

Yeah hopefully everything will OK might just be implantation bleeding or old blood . Have u passed any clots or really bad pain ?

AmieB · 21/05/2024 05:52

@WiseDog no nothing! It just seems like a regular period. If I hadn’t of already known I was pregnant I would have just assumed it was my period a few days late. Really hoping for the best but I know in my heart it’s gonna be bad news. No pain apart from super super mild period cramps but nothing more than that xxx

Ah OP that’s so stressful. FWIW I bled at 5 weeks with all 3 of mine. Had a big bleed at 13 weeks with DD. All fine. My friend bled the whole way through her pregnancy. I’d go to EPU / private scan when you get home.

RaisingCornishWildlings · 21/05/2024 06:08

So sorry you're going through this. It happened to me(I think I was 5-6 weeks) in October and I was away celebrating a friend's 40th when the bleeding started. I have 3 gorgeous children but DH and I were over the moon with the new pregnancy so it was absolutely gutting. My tests were really strong even 2 days before the bleed. I called the EPU and they invited me in- did hCG blood test, and internal scan- blood test was still fairly high but scan showed no sign of a pregnancy. I had to go back 48 hours later for a second blood test and was advised it would most likely be like a heavy period. They were so kind. They gave me a little crocheted butterfly as a memorial memento of my little lost love. And suggested I waited a week before testing again to check it was negative. We've been trying ever since (my due date would be next month) and still haven't caught, which is frustrating! But I know there's hope as I conceived all 4 pregnancies with no trouble!

If and when you're ready.... there's a trying to conceive after early loss thread I started...
And it's a lovely supportive group with lots of ladies in a similar position.

Rest up, speak to the EPU when you're home (my understanding is they always want to check that nothing is retained, that it's not ectopic etc ... ) and know you're far from alone.
I'm so sorry for your loss.xxx

A digital test is no use here as it will show 1-2 weeks as long as it's faint. Best to buy a couple of cheap stirp tests and see if the line will get lighter day after day.

AmieB · 21/05/2024 10:41

@RaisingCornishWildlings thank you so much, really made me feel so much better. The bleeding hasn’t even been heavy or bad at all it’s just been like a generic period, day 2 now and it’s died down a lot so not sure what’s going on!
@contentsmayb I still have some easy @ home strip tests back home so I’ll do one of those and see what that comes back with.
@RaisingCornishWildlings EPU?? I don’t think I have a number or details for that? All I have is the community midwives number from when I initially self referred so maybe I’ll give them a call.
still clinging onto a snippet of hope that everything will be fine but we’ve already said we will start trying again straight away. With all 3 pregnancies so far we’ve conceived fairly quickly using Preseed and trying to DTD on my ‘blue’ days so this reassures me. So frustrating in all terms though as this pregnancy dates would have coincided nicely with all our birthdays (12wk scan would have been around hubby’s bday, gender reveal around my bday etc etc), also would have worked out well with work & maternity leave etc. sounds silly but I had it all planned out in my head etc.
xx

RaisingCornishWildlings · 21/05/2024 10:46

It doesn't sound silly at all. I also wanted so much for the dates to work for me- I had a 2 year 2 month gap between first and second babies then 3 years and then it was going to be another 2y2-3m gap.
Now it's looking like it'll be more than a 3 year gap and it's the baby I want that's important but it still makes me sad! Especially as I've just turned 41- so time is ticking!!
EPU is early pregnancy unit: when I bled, I rang the midwife triage line and they arranged for me to attend the EPU the following day.
Good luck with it all. I need to research Preseed!

AmieB · 21/05/2024 10:59

@RaisingCornishWildlings yes do get some it’s amazing! With our DD we tried for about 9 months, no luck, researched Preseed and had so many good reviews so ordered it low & behold pregnant 1st month using it, second time round I bought it again and fell pregnanct 1st month, same again this time but obv may be losing this one. Highly recommend it! 😀😀
ah fab thanks so much, I will test when back home and then give them a call! I suppose I need to let them know anyway as they had scheduled my 1st midwife appt!

I would phone epu up hun because you are bleeding they normally open every day apart from weekends I think or go a and e and they will sort it out x

AmieB · 21/05/2024 13:26

@WiseDog im abroad at the moment so wouldn’t even know where to start. I’m home in a few days so plan on testing again to see if its negative and will call my midwife unit anyway as they had already booked my 9week appt so need to let them know if I don’t need it anymore. I’m still keeping everything crossed for a positive outcome but highly doubt it xx
