If you had a VBAC, when did you go into spontaneous labour?

I'm 33 weeks and feel like the baby is so low down that I could go into labour any time! I had my son at 35 weeks due to complications but no indication I won't go to term this time.

Just out of curiosity I thought I'd do a bit of a poll to see when you went into spontaneous labour if you had a c-sec the first time round!

I didn't, I was induced at 42 weeks second time round.

ohidoliketobe23 · 20/05/2024 12:46

@ConflictofInterest oh wow! How was your induction? The consultant I've been seeing is very anti-induction for VBACs bc of rupture risk, but I'd really like to not have a c-sec with a 2.5 year old at home!

Following out of interest because I also thought induction would be ruled out

First contractions at 40+3, baby born at 40+6 by CS due to failure to progress.

Sparkledr · 20/05/2024 13:07

I didn't I was induced at 41 weeks. They can apparently use certain induction methods. I had my waters broken then the hormone drip. I dont believe they can use pessaries. Ended up with another emergency c section anyway.

Following as I'm currently 39+4 and hoping to have a VBAC. Impatiently waiting for any signs of Labour to start 😂

suss80 · 20/05/2024 13:32

My friend has just gave birth days ago and her first was a EMCS, she wanted a vaginal delivery this time but was advised if she didn't go into labour naturally by 41 weeks she would have another c section, 41 weeks came with no signs of labour so she had another c section.

YourFluentCrab · 20/05/2024 13:34

37 weeks. Laboured for 5 days, taken in for a sweep, gave birth the next day.

ConflictofInterest · 20/05/2024 13:36

@ohidoliketobe23 not great, it took 2 days, I had two pessaries, one on each day, waters broken and the drip, then forcep delivery. I was hoping for a home birth (tried for a home birth with my first too), but it wasn't meant to be. Good luck. I was constantly monitored and they didn't let me push for longer than two hours before moving to forceps in theatre so I think they keep a close eye on you during a VBAC if you're induced.

MrsAvocet · 20/05/2024 13:38

DC1Section at 37+5
DC2 VBAC at 40+10
DC3 VBAC at 40+15
(Both VBACs spontaneous labours though I did have a sweep a day or two before the last onr)

ilovetea14 · 20/05/2024 13:46

38 weeks started contractions at 8.20am and gave birth at 4.40pm the day before I had my ds my body was getting ready for delivery as I was in the bathroom clearing out 🤣🤣 I couldn't eat anything the morning I went into labour.
38 weeks on my second contractions started at 5.15am dd was born at 7.14am she came first than my waters. During my contractions I was vomiting and diarrhea at the same time tmi sorry!

northsouthmaybe · 20/05/2024 13:47

DC1 planned section at 39w
DC2 spontaneous labour (VBAC) at 39+5

Zombiemama84 · 20/05/2024 13:48

Ive had 2 vbacs, I went into labour both times within 24-48hrs of having sweeps, went into labour on my due date with first vbac, 3 days late with second.

Blessedbethefruitz · 20/05/2024 13:49

I had a couple of sweeps, and then labour at 40+6 for my vbac (cesarean for breech first baby). Precipitous labour, baby girl born a few hours later with shoulder dystocia.

Moriquendi · 20/05/2024 14:18

First was inducted at 41+6- ended in EMCS due to heart rate concerns.
Second time I went into labour spontaneously at 41+3. Also ended in a EMCS due to poo in the waters and heart rate concerns.

Had to argue my case not to be induced at 41 weeks, and would have taken a C-Section over induction if there had been good reasons to be induced.

Autumn1990 · 20/05/2024 15:14

Ds emcs after spontaneous labour but augmented at 42
DD VBAC at 38 weeks

LoompaOompa · 20/05/2024 15:17

Elective C-Section booked for 39 weeks after failing to progress for DC1. Unexpected VBAC at 38+2. DC2 took 90 minutes.

ohidoliketobe23 · 21/05/2024 17:28

Thanks for all your replies! Amazing to see such a variation.

I have an appointment with the consultant on Friday where I expect to be asked to book an induction/c-section date. I will book a c-sec for 41 weeks to appease them but I really do hope I go naturally before that!
