Time of work for antenatal care

Has anyone ever been asked to work back travel time for antenatal appointments? Luckily most of my appointments fall on my non working day but as I have lots of extra twin clinic appointments I’ve had to book some antenatal appointments on working days.
Work have said I can have paid leave for the appointments but have to either work back travel time to/from these appointments or take it as leave.
so far it’s added up to an hour and a half which I know isn’t loads but will add up. Seems a bit tight to me. Trying to save all annual leave for when the babies come along and shattered with the pregnancy so working time back seems a bit crap too.
anyone else had this at work?

That's horrendous. I'm not sure if the legalities but seems extremely unfair. Do they ask people to do that for routine medical appointments? You can't not go to appointments

According to Maternity Action:

"The law says that you are entitled to ‘reasonable’ paid time off to attend your antenatal appointments, including travelling and waiting time. If your employer does not pay you for time off, see below."

For routine appointments you either have to work the full time back or take it as annual leave but I thought maternity / antenatal related appointments would be fully protected so a bit miffed
