Horrible nausea and stomach acid - what medication helped you?

I'm 7+6 and have constant nausea and stomach acid (but I don't vomit). I've now reached the point of despair, I am constantly so unwell I want to scream. If I get hungry the nausea gets worse but even a bite of food or a sip of liquid triggers horrendous stomach acid and my whole digestive system burns in pain. I can still eat here and there, forcing myself despite nausea, but I almost cannot drink liquids anymore. I have strong aversion to water, or any juice, up until recently I could eat soups but I cannot anymore. The only form of liquid I can have is a bit of milk with some bland cereal. I don't think I'm dehydrated yet but how this is going it's only a matter of time.

I'm taking omeprazole, once a day (20 mg). Tried cyclizine for nausea, it seemed it helped the first day I took it but then I feel it made things worse afterwards so I stopped it. Has anyone had similar symptoms to mine (extreme nausea with stomach acid but no vomiting) and tried other drug combinations?

Or any advice how to get more liquid in? I've tried popsicles, soups, freshly squeezed juice, flavouring water, nothing helps, I cannot drink.

Forgot to say, this is my third pregnancy (I have a 5 year old and had a miscarriage 2 years ago). Both times I suffered badly with nausea and acid, but this now is on another level, to the point I'm starting to convince myself I'm either carrying twins or have a molar pregnancy.

Sorry you're suffering - I'm on my third early pregnancy (no children yet) and my worst sickness by a mile, non stop nausea, retching and being sick a couple of times a day. I have Prochlorperazine maleate but it doesn't seem to be helping but could be worth asking as different drugs are effective for different people.

As a side note, strength of pregnancy symptoms doesn't seem to correlate with anything - I'm almost certain to lose this pregnancy too (scan on Wednesday to confirm) and yet feel horrific.

Hello - I'd ask to be on a higher dose of Omeprazole. I take two daily AND famotidine (a much stronger acid med). I would book an urgent appointment with your doc to ask for strong meds, and i'd immediately go and get another omeprazole. My fiancé is a doctor so it's all safe in pregnancy. One omeprazole is only really suitable for the average person taking daily meds. Even with what I am on I still wake up twice a night with heartburn, but it's much better than it was! Hope you feel better soon <3

Sympathies OP - I’m 20 weeks and only just getting over the worst of it! Definitely don’t suffer in silence. GP prescribed me omeprazole for the reflux, cyclizine during the day and Promethiazine overnight. I could take the latter during the day too but found it made me sleepy whereas cyclizine doesn’t. My only regret is not approaching the GP sooner!

CherryRipe1 · 20/05/2024 15:40

Sea bands were the only things that helped me.

Me 🙋🏻‍♀️

I'm the exact same.

I am on 2 omeprazole a day, and I was taking rennies but the taste of them and gaviscon makes me heave for half hour after and doesn't help my symptoms.

I have a call appointment with my GP on Thursday to see what else I can do.

Thanks all for the replies. It is quite scary how many people go through these horrendous symptoms, I hope we all find something that helps!
I called the GP and they are reluctant to change anything. He mentioned on the phone today to "take gaviscon" (even though I already explained before it doesn't help me and makes me vomit). They did offer an appointment tomorrow though but it seems they will not prescribe me more than 1 omeprazole a day. If cyclizine doesn't work for me, too bad, he said "nausea in pregnancy is normal". He offered to give me sick notes and that's it. I feel like I am hitting a brick wall 🤦.
