5 weeks pregnant - sharp shooting pains

Hi

Just looking for reassurance.

I had a fresh transfer and got a positive pregnancy test. I am now 5 weeks pregnant

However for the last 3-4 days I have had shooting pain in the uterus. The only way I could describe it is like an electric shock type pain that shoot's up through my uterus. I also had it on my left side low down by my pelvic bone and that has now shifted to the right hand side.

I had a miscarriage last year so worried if it happens again.

Thanks

I had this with both my pregnancies. Pretty sure it's just your uterus stretching. That was how I knew i was pregnant the second time as remembered from the first. Keep an eye though and talk to your GP if concerned. Congratulations and good luck!

@TwilightAb thanks for your reply.
I'm still getting my cramping as normal and then random shooting pain - it's bizzare.

@rellpop I'm 5w+1 and have the same following an FET. I'm thinking of booking an early scan for 6+1 to make sure it's in the right place as my IVF clinic not scanning me until nearly 8 weeks!

If it's one sided maybe get checked out but if all through pelvic region it'll just be the uterus and ligaments stretching

Mama2b99 · 19/05/2024 17:54

I got it in my 4th week it should last a few seconds and subsides!

I had this almost all first trimester. Don't worry! Have a safe pregnancy and delivery, OP! Congrats!

@DippyDuck19
I just booked a 6 week scan to ease my mind.

Thanks @Mama2b99 @readingismycardio
I had a missed MC last year and also had shooting pains at some point - just don't know if it was before I miscarried and whether I would have had those shooting pains regardless or MC or not.
I've read people getting shooting pains in successful and unsuccessful

@sarahc336 the pain is central to- right up through my uterus - almost starting at my pelvis - it's very odd feeling

Had this at 4/5 weeks with both my pregnancies, both healthy births.

Congratulations OP!

ThePassageOfTime · 19/05/2024 19:14

Less with second pregnancy as uterus already stretched though!

rellpop · 19/05/2024 20:00

@ThePassageOfTime thanks for this - it really helps to hear people have had success with similar symptoms. I'm pregnant thought IVF so I'm terribly anxious about every twinge.

Can you remember how long they lasted for - I have these sharp shooting pains since Thursday - they've changed location - gone from left side to right side and now seems to be right in the middle of my uterus - the pain always shooting upwards.

@rellpop

Maybe 2 weeks or slightly less?

It much be such a worry, with an IVF pregnancy in particular but your symptoms are definitely normal, it's surprising how painful the stretching can be!

rellpop · 20/05/2024 09:34

Thank you @ThePassageOfTime I'm just very paranoid about the shooting pain as I had it last year when I had a miscarriage
