Hi - I’ve just had my 12 week scan and the sonographer said that she didn’t think the stomach has developed correctly and I’ve been referred to FMU but as it’s the weekend my appointment isn’t until Monday.
has anything similar happened to anyone else? Trying not to spend the weekend in tears

Hey hun. Not for the same reason but I was also referred to FMU. When they scanned me, what the ‘normal’ sonographer picked up wasn’t the same as FMU picked up - my scan with FMU was more positive. I apparently had 36cm of amniotic fluid on my ‘normal’ scan but when FMU scanned me it was 21cm. Try to stay positive on that front. The difference was huge. They are more detailed, more educated in these things. Did they do any measures of the baby like femur length, abdominal circumference etc? X

Hi, thanks so much for replying. I’m glad you had a positive experience

I assume she did those measurements but she turned off the screen after she found the abnormality and didn’t say much else. And I was upset and didn’t really think to ask if everything else was ‘normal’. She kept apologising and asked if I wanted a print out of baby or not. She just gave me the impression that she thought it was quite serious or maybe I just didn’t ask any of the right questions because I was in a bit of shock. Idk I just got a bad impression, not her fault at all I could tell she felt awful for me and it can’t be easy delivering news like that. X

Yeah that’s true but also she doesn’t want to give you false information that might not be correct and worry you even more. I know the wait on these things is horrible, this is my first baby and I can’t tell you how my anxiety has been throughout but hopefully you’ll get a more positive outcome Monday. Hopefully someone with the same scenario can come along and reassure you. Keep yourself busy the weekend if possible and I hope you get positive news Monday x

I was referred to FMU as they thought my baby had ventriculomegaly (fluid on the brain). Local maternity unit lead us to believe our baby would be born severely brain damaged and asked if we would like a termination (I was 33 weeks pregnant by this point). I was scanned by FMU a week later, and all was normal. FMU said my local maternity unit had read the original scan wrong. By 35 weeks I was going out of my mind as I didn't know who to believe and demanded to be induced (that was the plan anyway), I was induced at 35+5 and gave birth to a perfectly healthy baby boy. Try not to worry too much. Just see what the FMU have to say.

Thank you both - feeling a bit more positive now and going to keep myself busy this weekend x
