Severe breathlessness 33 weeks… normal or doctors?

Every single day for the past 2 weeks I have experienced breathlessness and it seems to be getting worse- lasting longer, happening more frequently and more severe. It feels like someone is sat on my chest and I can’t breathe.

I know some breathlessness is normal especially when walking/moving but this happens when I’m sat down or just stood not moving. Is this normal or is it time to call the GP? It’s making me more worried every day!

thanks in advance

Call your maternity line on your notes for advice then it might be A&E or maternity assessment unit. The GP will send you to the hospital.

Call your midwife/ go to maternity triage.

Try and get an emergency appointment at ante natal clinic. Do you have a midwife phone number? If you can’t get through then it’s the GP.

I think you should call your midwife urgently. If you can't get hold of them then I would get to A&E.

Hope everything is okay.

You should probably call for a as check in case it’s something serious, but I had this and it was a mix of ‘normal’ pregnant breathlessness and low iron, just saying so you don’t panic too much about it being something scary!

Pancakefam · 13/05/2024 09:20

I think low iron is common around this time. I had this with low b12 and low folate, all at once. Definitely worth getting checked out

Thank you everyone, I will ring triage

I'm 34 weeks now and I've had this for weeks. I do have low iron tho and baby is pushing right up against my ribs. Call triage if you are worried tho 😊
