Umbilical hernia and subsequent pregnancies

Hi all,

Bit of a specific question, but has anyone had an umbilical hernia that has been surgically repaired and gone on to have another baby? I’d really love another baby but I don’t want to wait (I had the hernia repair done a couple of weeks ago). How long should I wait?/ Is it a bad idea? No one medical js really giving me a definitive answer.

TIA!

In our trust, the surgeons advise to wait at least 6-12 months to allow it to strengthen and heal before TTC. Pregnancy can also cause the hernia to reoccur even after this, something to bear in mind.

@Boymama87 just curious how bad was your umbilical hernia? I've had one since I had my son late 2021 and I'm pregnant again now and wondering if I should have got it sorted first as it's going to get worse I'm just starting to show

Hiya,
it was a medium sized hernia apparently. It was painful on and off which is why it’s worn me 2yrs to sort it. But I had a spell of about 2 weeks where it was SO painful and I had had enough. I’m amazed at what it looks like now. I’d got so used to it looking herniated and now it looks ‘sort of’ normal again! Xx

Hiya!

was this done on the NHS? I have what I think is a hernia (belly button very protruding) and gap around belly button.

im pregnant with third and hope to get it fixed after this baby as I’m done. I wonder if I can also get it fixed during my c section.

did you go to GP to get referred about this?
