Scan dates different

Hello,

Hoping for some advice / reassurance / stories either way!
I had an early scan and I should be measuring 6+5 but was only measuring 6+1. I’m sure of my dates and it can only be 1 day out max!
So it’s 3-4 days measuring behind.
They didn’t seem concerned and just said it’s normal as I’ve calculated incorrect but I didn’t question it there. It’s only when I’ve come home and looked and thought that’s not possible!
There was a strong heartbeat but can’t stop thinking about the dates!
Any advice is welcomed!

At 6-7 weeks the baby is so small that you’re talking mms difference in size and it’s very hard to measure. I wouldn’t be worried about 3 days difference, but if you’re worried then you could book in for another scan in two weeks.

Gilo2024 · 08/05/2024 09:42

I had the same, thought I was 6+4 but scan (with NHS) showed exactly 6, same query as I was sure of my dates. The difference is tiny and early scans aren't as accurate as later ones. It's always a prediction based on the 'average'.

Strawbs92 · 08/05/2024 09:47

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the dates. As long as baby is growing.

My baby is measuring ahead to my surprise and i have no idea how.

All will be ok ❤

Ritadidsomethingbad · 08/05/2024 09:51

OP honestly please don’t worry! This is completely normal and I see it every day! It could be down to late implantation/late ovulation.

Your 12 week scan will be the true dating scan and even then it can be off 😂

There is a strong heart beat! Congratulations! 💐

IgoogledYOLO · 08/05/2024 09:51

You might ovulate a few days earlier/later than those with a textbook cycle, hence a change in date.

Both my kids had their due date changed by a few days. This is normal.

Try not to focus on dates so exactly; childbirth is not a clinical process. Your body knows what to do.

soscarlet · 08/05/2024 09:53

Mine was measuring behind at that point and I knew the date the embryo had been put inside my uterus - there’s no messing with IVF dates! I’m 29 weeks and they’re measuring big now.

Don't stress it, they go by average lengths. It would be more of an issue if you thought you were 8 weeks but measuring 6, a few days doesn’t matter at all.

yogpot · 08/05/2024 09:54

I had this (and completely aside, but I wish I had never paid for a private early reassurance scan, it did not reassure at all and I think I was probably anxious and vulnerable and the scan had little actual medical purpose) and my baby was fine.

In fact, when I queried with the midwife, as my estimated due date after my 12 week scan was a week later than my own calculation and I was POSITIVE I knew exactly when I had conceived, she basically shrugged and said it was a very complex thing.

Baby arrived one day before my estimated due date as well. So I was completely wrong! Still can’t work it out.

OpenRobin · 08/05/2024 09:54

My 6 week scan was the same, I measured 5 days behind and knew there was no way I could be. I didn't question it, worried until the 12 week scan and by that one the dates were exactly what I thought they should be.
A strong heartbeat is a great sign

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 08/05/2024 09:58

My first private scan I went at 7+5 and she told me baby was measuring 7+1

I just ignored it though and kept by my dates

Went again at 9+6 (my dates) baby measuring 9+5 on scan

Then dating scan I went at 12+4 (my dates) baby was measuring 12+6!

WhiteHorse92 · 08/05/2024 10:21

Don't worry, they're literally measuring in millimetres or less at that point, dating that early on is never going to be accurate. In my last pregnancy I went for a scan at 8+1 but they measured at 7+1, then when I went to my 12 week scan I thought I'd be measuring 11 weeks but sure enough my dates were right and they measured 12 weeks!

MintOrca · 08/05/2024 10:55

Thank you so much for all the positivity & reassurance!!! Much appreciated 🤍

For my first baby I was a whole 2 weeks out, had a scan that should've been 8 weeks and I was only 6!

You don't always conceive straight away, sperm can hang about for 5 days! xx

Blue2020 · 08/05/2024 13:07

I had a similar thing happen at 9 week private scan. I was 9+1 and it measured 8+5, 3 days behind but I knew when I had ovulated. By my ‘12 week scan’ they actually put me two days ahead (to before I had even ovulated) so instead of being 13+3 they said I was 13+5 and gave me a edd based on it.
I had a successful pregnancy and he is now 1. I just came to say if it’s only a few days out then it’s fine, there are errors measuring during the early weeks.

remaininghopeful23 · 08/05/2024 20:24

Very similar happened to me and all turned out fine😊 I was actually told it's too early to accurately date a pregnancy before 8 weeks.

My first scan I thought I was 6+5. I had already pulled myself back by 4 days as I ovulate 4 days later than average (so based on the average calculation I'd be 7+2 but knew I was more likely 6+5). BUT my scan only measured 6+1. I was devastated as I certainly couldn't account for 8 days. I went back a week later to find it measured 7+3. And a week after that measured 8+5. So we grew by 9 days per week, two weeks in a row! And officially caught up with my own calculations. Currently 30 weeks and growth has been ever so precise since.

Wishing you all the luck in the world!! ❤️

SnookyPook · 08/05/2024 20:37

I had an early scan at EPU due to previous losses. At 7+2 I measured 6+2 but with a heartbeat. They weren't worried. I had fortnightly scans up until 12wks and stayed on the later trajectory (i.e. a week behind my dates) - even at the dating scan. Currently 26+2.. most likely I ovulated and implanted a bit late. As everyone else has said, a few days here or there at those early scans usually doesn't mean anything. X

LBNM19 · 08/05/2024 20:45

This is my 5th pregnancy. I’m currently 37 weeks. I was put behind with all my pregnancy’s by at least 4 days so very normal.

Peonies12 · 09/05/2024 06:27

Totally normal, everyone I know including me has measured differently. Implantation can happen from 6-12 DPO so of course there’s a window - it’s not just based on when you think you ovulated.
