I'm 33+3 and had a pretty smooth pregnancy so far. Last couple of weeks tho I've had pains in my right side below my boob that feels like someone is stabbing a red hot poker between my ribs..it also feels bruised to touch. Also get similar in my back-same side sometimes.
I'm not concerned about it being anything serious neither is the midwife she said it's just ligament pain and is normal. But wondering if anyone has had similar and found anything to relieve it? A bath helps as does stretching but it comes on suddenly sometimes and takes my breath away it so painful.

Hi
I had the same thing, I found out it was babies foot right up under my rib. I did massage it out which helped! When he shifted around a bit it was like instant relief

@FTMaz I see thank you, that would make sense however I had a scan last week and baby is on left side and I feel kicks on left so I don't think it's that. I have tried massaging the area but it's quite painful to touch.
I think it's either rib flare or round ligament pain..just hoping it doesn't get worse!

I am no expert on this and I don't want to alarm you but upper right pain under the ribs can be a sign of pre-eclampsia https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/pre-eclampsia/

I'm assuming your midwife did a blood pressure check and tested urine for protein?

Without getting over anxious it might be helpful to read the above NHS link and keep an eye open for other symptoms

nhs.uk

Pre-eclampsia

Pre-eclampsia is a condition that affects some pregnant women, usually during the second half of pregnancy (from around 20 weeks) or soon after their baby is delivered.

@EducatingArti thank you yes I'm aware of this and had a little scare myself but it's not pre eclampsia, blood pressure is fine I have my own monitor aswell as regular midwife checks and no other symptoms to suggest it could be. Pretty sure it's ligament pain, I am only 5ft 1 and the upper part of my stomach is really stretched now..still have 6 weeks to go. Will speak to midwife again but appears it's just something I'll have to put up with.

Oh, I am so glad that it isn't preeclampsia. Hope you manage to find a way to feel more comfortable soon.

I had this quite bad in my first pregnancy. It was a burning sensation and i got signed off from my GP in the end as sitting in a chair for 8 hours at work everyday reduced me to tears. I found being more at an angle helped.

Like yourself, i am petite and 5ft 2. I think it is pretty normal as i wasn't told anything other wise, its just everything stretching.

@Strawbs92 thank you it's nice to know I'm not the only one! It is a horrible sharp burning pain that differs in severity. I can work from home quite a bit which helps it's more car journeys and in bed where I struggle. Also when out walking my dogs it'll be fine then come on quite suddenly, sometimes alongside Braxton hicks. I'll be glad to get her out of there!
