I'm 7w1d pregnant and I have a 8cm cyst on my right ovary. Is this common? They are referring me to the clinic which she said is for people with cancer, although she said she thinks it's unlikely it's a precaution. It's really worried me and ruined an exciting time :(. Is it normal to be referred ?

It is common to see a cyst on an early scan, I had one flagged up and when I went for my 12 week one it had disappeared; the sonographer said it could just be where I'd ovulated (although the first sonographer did make me panic a bit!) I don't know about size though

Ah ok, hope this one disappears 😂 it's grown since last week 😖

Hiya, I had a similar thing flagged during my first pregnancy - was referred to a consultant and was incredibly anxious that it would somehow harm the baby. Cyst was over 10cm at the time and caused no problems at all during pregnancy so try not to worry.

One thing I would say is to request scans to keep an eye on it after the birth - mine carried on growing and I ended up having surgery to remove it. Not cancerous though and I went on to have another successful pregnancy. And apparently some do go away by themselves.

I had a 10cm cyst removed during my elcs, it hadn’t been noted on any scans (of which I’d had many!) so it was something of a surprise to the surgeon who discovered it. I got the impression that it wasn’t unusual though. If I hadn’t already been open on the table they would have just monitored it apparently.

I had an 8cm cyst during my pregnancy. Was referred to a consultant for other reasons but this was kept an eye on throughout. I had an ELCS at 37 weeks and they removed the cyst during the section. There was no complications with the pregnancy or with the cyst being removed.

Had a 10cm cyst found during first scan with my DS. Had extra scans throughout pregnancy as a precaution but caused no issues at all. Was consultant led for most of pregnancy just so they could keep an eye on it but was given the OK to labour at the midwife led unit as was was told it would not affect the birth.

Hopefully the cancer referral is just a precaution, my consultant said that in our trust they refer every cyst over a certain size to the cancer team to be on the safe side but that she was almost certain it wouldn't be cancer (and it wasn't🙂)

Mine turned out to be a dermoid cyst which had probably been growing since I was a child and don't go away like simple cysts so had surgery to remove it when DS was 6 months old. Have since had another successful pregnancy.
