High Amniotic Fluid Level!!!

Hi All. I’m just looking for some advice if anyone has been in a similar position.

4 weeks ago they noticed my amniotic fluid level was high, I failed the GTT (only just) and was diagnosed with GD. It’s been diet controlled since but today I’m 29+1 and had a growth scan and my amniotic fluid is now at nearly 37cm!! It’s increased by 10cm in 2 weeks. Im on Metaformin from tonight. Im so worried. The growth is normal however the tummy isn’t far off going above the line (possibly due to sugar ) and they are worried she’s either weeing too much or not able to drink enough of the fluid. They done a scan of her face and said her face / lips look normal. I have another scan in 2 weeks. I think what I’m asking is has anyone been in a similar position and was their baby ok with no genetic issues, or just ok in general? Did your fluid levels decrease after medication? I’m out of my mind with so many worries now! I’m nearly on the home stretch and just can’t begin to imagine how I’ll cope if something is wrong now. Thank you all x

Hi Op,

I was scanned every 3-4 weeks from 20 weeks due to high fluid but I didn’t have GD. Mine wasn’t as high as yours but it fluctuate between scans. I was told that if it continued to be high they would do an early induction and if it was too too high a planned c section. There was absolutely nothing wrong with my baby, if they have checked the mouth area which they did with mine at every scan then I would try not to worry too much. I had a consultant see me after scan and to be fair the whole experience was very good. It’s so hard not to go down a rabbit hole though. At my 38 week scan I was sure they were going to induce me but by that point the fluid was only showing as slightly high and the consultant said it was more beneficial for me to go full term. I ended up having my waters broken (not due to high fluid but because my hind waters went naturally but my body didn’t go into labour) and it was a sight to behold, when baby was born he was also followed by an almighty gush!

Thank you for coming back to me! I think they check the facial features and lips for DS but I did have a negative NIPT test a while back so hopefully that’s all ok. I’m just worried about the effects on the baby with the high fluid. I’m hoping this Metaformin helps asap. Thank you for sharing your experience though, although it’s not nice I feel like I’m not the only one. Thank you and glad all was ok x
