First pregnancy and booking in appointment with midwife, I’ve read they need some info about the parents, what do they need from dad/sperm donor?

Just medical history really, to see if there's any potential genetic issues.

Ideally it is just a family history of immediate family members and any congenital abnormalities in the family. Plenty of people don't give this and you won't be judged if you don't have it. Just be honest about it!

from distant memory - recent medical history, has he or anyone in his immediate family suffered from genetically linked issues, and ethnic background (there are certain issues like sickle cell more common in, for instance, ashkenazi jews or africans).

Also to give him the same info as you about how bad it is to smoke (passive smoke) around you in pregnancy, and to answer any questions he might have.

They ask about mental health too

malimoon · 01/05/2024 20:45

Yeah just health/mental health stuff and if I remember right they also asked what my relationship with the father was (i.e. was he my partner or what) but that was more in context of what support I had around me, like they were also asking about my support network more generally, not in a judgy way just making sure you have people to rely on!

My children are via anonymous donor route and just told midwife’s and that from the info provided no known medical or genetic conditions.

My husband is adopted and she just wrote that on the form as no family history known

Latenightreader · 01/05/2024 21:04

I used an anonymous donor via a clinic and there was no problem on the form. However, the booking in midwife insisted she needed the date of the egg collection/fertilisation, despite me telling her I’d had a frozen transfer of a three day embryo on a particular date. I couldn’t remember (the collection had been the previous year) and had to phone the clinic to check…

My partner doesn’t know anything about his biological dad (except name) so only has his mums family side for medical info. It wasn’t an issue at our booking in appointment. They were more interested in me as we’ve got history of clotting problems.
