Hi,

I'm currently 5 weeks and 1 day pregnant,
I'm having what i can only describe as lightning crotch symptom - a sharp stabbing pain felt in the pelvic area for less than 60 seconds every random few hours. Is this normal in early pregnancy?

Thanks I am really anxious and in doubt whether to go to the hospital and get checked any advice would be much appreciated. Xx

I’m new here and 5 weeks Tomorrow! My first so I can’t advise on experience but I’ve been reading and I think pains and aches can be normal. If accompanied by bleeding then get seen?
hopefully someone experienced can advise you. Xx

I’m 8 weeks today and remember googling this exact thing and combing the Mumsnet archives a few weeks back! It happened for about a week on and off. It really scared me too - everything I read mentioned it being a third trimester thing.

My 7 week scan was fine. Haven’t felt it since!

I'm pregnant with my third and I have only ever experienced this, also known as 'fanny daggers' in the second or third trimester. Usually the reason it happens later on in pregnancy is from the weight of baby pushing down.
This early it could just be hormonal changes or even excess gas. If it's still happening when you get to 6 weeks my advice would be phone EPU.
