Bleeding then positive pregnancy test

Hi All, DH and I have been trying to add a third baby to the family for about 6 months. Been tracking ovulation with clear blue digital tests.
Last month AF started on 01/03/2024. Testing showed ovulation happened 31/03/2024, dtd multiple times over those 3-4 days. 12/04/2024 had what I believed to be AF, used tampons etc due to the bleeding. Last week for some unknown reason had the urge to do a pregnancy test which surprisingly came back positive! Clearblue digital says 3+ weeks. Obviously we are over the moon but now can't stop panicking something is wrong because of the amount of blood prior to knowing. Has anyone got any experience of this?

Congratulations on you pregnancy 🥰 xx
The period like flow before the positive test isn’t something I’ve experienced but it’s definitely something I’ve heard others experience and it be a healthy pregnancy. On the other hand though blood can obviously mean loss or potential loss, sadly, so it’s always best to get it checked out. I hope all is okay x

Congratulations! I had this, what I thought was a lighter period for 3 days, positive test then 7 days spotting.

EPU checked me out and said they didn't know what caused the bleeding but all was ok. DC is now about to turn four!

Hope all goes well for you.

I didn't pay much attention to the bleeding at the time as hadn't done a pregnancy test yet so just presumed AF had started early. Now struggling to be excited as on the back of my mind is a constant reminder that something could be wrong

I had this, had what I assumed was a period around the time my period was due. Wasn't particularly different to a normal period, but I guess looking back on it it was a bit lighter than usual, but I was using tampons.

Tested about 3 weeks later as a felt pregnant, but I only had one cheap test left over from my previous pregnancy, so I'd ordered a pack of 15 test strips online the night before I planned to take it, as I assumed I was testing mega early and was likely to end up with loads of negatives or lines that were barely there.

Did the test the next morning and a dark line instantly appeared. Started laughing at the pack of 15 tests due to arrive later that day.

I still took that fake bleed as my last period for booking etc, until I had a scan at 8 weeks (due to a health condition) and it turned out I was 12 weeks.

I'm now 34 weeks and all seems to be fine.

Congratulations and good luck with your pregnancy!

Had a private early reassurance scan this afternoon and so far all looks good! Estimated to be between 5-6 weeks and has a heartbeat!!!! Relief is unreal!

Hi, is everything still okay now hun? I’m bleeding right now but really late for AF and I’ve just done a test and it’s positive

Ooh relatable.
I had, what I thought was, my period start last week, a few days earlier. Very very light and an old blood darker shade like mine have been starting lately, so no reason to think it was anything else. But after 3 days it stopped. After 3 days of nothing at all I did a test and it was positive. The line has got stronger all week :)
But now, a week later, I have mild cramps and spotting again.
Really hoping all is fine as it does seem quite common to get some light bleeding in early pregnancy but my mind races and I can't cope with the worry and anxiety :(

mine was negative this morning :(

So sorry to hear this :(

In case anyone stumble upon this…I had what I thought were normal periods and ended up 8 weeks off in my LMP date with DS1 (now 11). (My 12 week scan rapidly morphed into the 20 week anomaly check). I would have had the same with DS2 had the community midwife not remembered my first effort and sent me for an ‘early’ scan (at which I was 13 weeks).

Pyjamatimenow · 02/09/2024 13:01

I had what looked like a full period with my second dc

Just incase anyone finds this thread in future. Pregnancy progressed completely fine and DS was born at a whopping 9lb 3oz at the end of last year with no complications :)
