Miscarriage starting experience

Hi everyone,

I’m waiting for one final scan before I can start management but have confirmed missed miscarriage.

I was wondering if anyone was happy to share their experience of miscarriage starting naturally? I have pains like period pains in my stomach and in my back and had some red blood this morning after going to the bathroom but nothing since.

I don’t know if this is the start of natural miscarriage (which at this point I hope it is) and wondered if anyone else started with spotting and pain and then miscarriage actually started?

It’s long such a long few weeks waiting and while I’m sure everyone’s experiences are totally different I just really want to know whether this might be the start!

Hope everyone’s ok x

I had 2-3 days of brown spotting and then mine literally all happened within 2-3 hours, I couldn't get off the toilet. I know that's only my experience but I would recommend staying home if you can. Mine was totally unexpected, hadn't had any scan, I was 10 weeks. Sorry for your loss. If it helps, that was last summer and I'm now 18 weeks PG.

I had an early miscarriage back in May 2023 and it started off with sudden red bleeding, within a few hours I'd passed the pregnancy and had a few more days of bleeding before it stopped completely.

Personally I found the process was quite sudden in terms of on set and seemed to be over just as quickly, which was a relief of sorts.

Hiya, I had miscarriage 3.5 months ago.. I woke up early one morning with persistent cramping.. I knew it wasn't normal, it was worse than anything I'd have got before a period. I also had light bleeding so I went to hospital and then sent me home. I think it too another 48 hrs or so for bleeding to get heavier and cramping continued... I was having contractions. When i went back to hospital they found the product and confirmed miscarriage. I was 9 weeks. I hope you get through this awful time soon

Sorry your going through this, it's really rubbish x
I had an early miscarriage, started off as very light bleeding which continued til around 5/6 am the next day where I had about half an hour of really bad pain which then subsided to lighter cramps then bleeding heavy for the rest of the day. It then tapered off over the next day or two like how a period does. Hope it's all over quickly for you, it's awful being in that limbo of waiting for it to just be finished x

I had a confirmed MMC at 8 weeks discovered sack was empty at a 6 week viability scan (IVF)
Bleeding started naturally at 9 weeks. At 1st it was normal period pain but got progressively worse until I was having contractions and forced to just sit on the loo passing large clots. It was a horrible experience but was over within a couple of hours and I actually felt a lot better afterwards albeit a bit drained and tired for a few days.
We tried again 6 months later and I'm now 32 weeks pregnant and haven't had any issues..it's a horrible thing to go through but the majority of women go on to have a successful pregnancy.

So sorry for your loss, have been in that situation before. I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks, started with brown spotting in the morning and slight bleeding throughout the day. By around 11pm that night, it was around 10 mins of pressure and soreness on the toilet and it was instant relief once the pregnancy passed. Followed by a few days of heavy ish bleeds, which were OK to deal with.

I didn't take any pain meds, so definitely take some to take the edge of it x

I started spotting brown blood and then went to gp who said my cervix was closed but could be a threatened miscarriage got into EPAU the same day who comfirmed, my pregnancy will end in miscarriage, 2 days later i started bleeding really bad, really bad cramps, and i couldnt move off the toilet.
My partner had to come upstairs and tell me he needed the toilet in order for me to get off it.
With every cramp i had a clot, i was doubled over in pain, my sac was measuring nearly 9 weeks, and my baby was measuring 6 weeks and 2 days.

So miscarriage was inevitable, was just hoping for medical management as the pain isnt as bad as naturally doing it (i know theres not much difference) after about 12 hours it had finished.

I went back to EPAU the following wednesday as routine, who confirmed i passed the pregnancy, however there was still some remaining tissue up really high in my uterus so needed medical management to finally shift it.

My experience: it was V V painful, lasted longer than what it would having medication, i was doubled over in pain, i had some tears come to my eyes.
Had to use my partner as a 'birth partner' as such, holding onto him while i contracted natually. Its horrible and definitely not something i want to go through again. (Naturally that is)
This has been my 3rd miscarriage, my first i thought was natural, it wasnt, but thats how it initially started out before the EPAU gave me medication, it was a breeze, my second was medical management as it didnt pass naturally at all, not even starting to pass naturally like my first. I would 1000% use medical management in future as it seems to be a lot quicker in passing.

Mine was around 7+5 weeks and mine started all of a sudden. I'd been the loo and wiped and there was red blood on the tissue. It was like a normal period for the first 12 hours then the next day got a lot more painful and I started to pass clots. Once the bigger clots had come out the pain and bleeding returned to like a normal period. Mine was over in probably 4 days, shorter than a period for me. The clots can be quite big so don't be alarmed but if you can't control the bleeding that's not normal. It should be manageable at home op 😊 sorry to hear of your loss

Hi @Bellebg sorry to hear you are going through this. I just came on here to enquire about miscarriage too.

We found out a couple of weeks ago that baby was smaller than expected for our dates. They confirmed last Thursday that baby hadn’t grown enough in the week that followed and that although we had a heartbeat we should expect the worst.

I started spotting brown blood last Thursday and it turned red on Sunday evening. It’s like the start of my period, but it’s been like that ever since. I’ve passed one small clot, about 2cm. Have had back pain and very mild cramps, but nothing like you would expect when miscarrying.

Just want it to be over now so we can try to put it behind us, but it’s all moving so slow. Back at the hospital on Thursday.

my baby passed at 6 weeks and I started brown spotting at 9w4d I had 2 days brown blood. Evening of day 3 I started red bleeding but the flow was light, day 4 the same with cramps in the evening, day 5 same as day 4, day 6 I started getting cramps at 5pm and they kept getting worse until 9pm when I felt a gush of blood and my whole pad filled up that it started leaking, I went to the toilet and blood was literally pouring out and I passed a clot the size of my fist, it lasted for a bit and then stopped, also the cramps stopped but I had a sharp pain in my uterus I could barely walk, I took a shower and changed my clothes and went to lay down, 30min later another gush of blood and passed another huge clot, another 30 min another gush another clot this time a bit smaller, 30min and another gush no clot, 1h another gush but less than before and that was it all pain stopped and I was exhausted. I bleed like a heavy period for another 3 days and then light flow for 1 more day and spotting for a week. Pretty traumatic so you have to be prepared and know what to expect. I think the rule is if you fill a pad every 15-30min for 2h you have to go to the hospital.

I had a mmc. Discovered at around 11 weeks, baby was only 6-7 weeks size. I opted for surgery but passed naturally before the op date. I had about 5 days of very light bleeding, then it got a bit heavier. Then it all ramped up for about 24hrs- several episodes of very heavy bleeding & flooding pads & clothes, passing big clots and tissue, accompanied by strong cramps. I didn't find the pain too bad (manageable with hot water bottle). Had a scan a day later which confirmed everything was passed. I bled for another 2 or 3 weeks but not too heavy. Sorry for your loss x

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 30/04/2024 14:45

Mine started with brown blood for a few days and then fresh red blood. The night before my scan I had really intense cramps that came in waves and lasted the whole night. Cramping stopped but bleeding still continued but not heavy. Scan showed the sac had doubled in size since my previous scan the week before but nothing else had changed, no heartbeat detected and baby was now sitting on my cervix. For me the heavy bleeding came about 5 days later and without warning. I'd literally just got changed and put a clean pad on. Sat down and sneezed and a torrent of blood and clots came out, completely soaking through a thick pad, my pjs and all over my chair. The next hour and half was spent sitting on the toilet with blood and hand sized clots pouring out and then it tapered off. The entire process took 5 weeks though as what I thought was everything passing during the heavy bleeds wasn't and I still had retained tissue.

Thank you all so much for your messages and I’m so sorry that so many of us have been through miscarriages. Sending everyone all the best for the future 🫶🏼

I’ve had no more symptoms for the last 4-5 days and nothing ended up happening so just going to have to wait for the op to remove everything.

Thanks again for sharing xx
