DD has had an horrific pregnancy, thankfully , we are nearly at the finish line, shes 37 weeks now, and may be offered a sweep at 38 and induction at 39.

She wants me to be there with her husband for the labour, which i am thrilled about and very honoured but also a little worried about.

The main reason ism potentially baby will be born with a birth defect and if baby has to go anywhere, dad goes with baby and i stay with mum.

I can't cope seeing my children hurt or in pain, and labour, although i've done it myself a few times, I'm not really sure what i need to be doing.

any advice from partners or parents who have been present at the birth have any advice for me>

No experience but if I wanted my mum there I know I'd just want her motherly wisdom of saying you can do it, just think how happy you'll be to hold your baby, you'll forget it all once it's over. That kind of thing.

Although my partner would be the one holding my hand, I'd be listening more to what my mum was saying and hoping for more reassurance from her as she done it before and because she's my mum, really, that's what mums do, they encourage you and believe in you your whole life.

Ask her what she would like from you, what she thinks would support her best.

Hi
I had an unexpected traumatic labour, it was the plan for my Mum to be at the hospital and my partner in the room but due to the nature of what happened both my Mum and partner were there which worked out to be absolutely the best thing. My Mum didn’t actively do much (she knows I don’t like being touched or fussed over!) but just having her presence there was enough. Also when I had to be taken into theatre my partner and her were left with our baby and I know he found it a massive support having her there to help him also as he is a first time Dad.

My Mum did bring a big bag of snacks which when I came around I was massively grateful for 😂

wishing your daughter and you all the best x
