I am currently pregnant still early but have really struggled with my IBS since being pregnant. I had it under control for months and now I have have Diarrhoea episodes more often. Anyone else experience this in early pregnancy?

Hey lovely,
I struggled in early pregnancy but now I’m getting to the end of the first trimester it’s settled and much better :)

@LM92020 congrats on your pregnancy! Yes it can definitely be a thing in early pregnancy. Its probably hormones at work, I had variations of constipation and diarrhoea in my first trimesters which settled into the second.

Hi! I am 11 weeks pregnant and my IBS has been terrible, having almost daily episodes of diarrhea. This is my second pregnancy, with my first it was the opposite, completely under control during and also for months afterwards! So I don't know why it's so different this time.
Hopefully it will settle soon🤞🏼

Hi fellow IBS suffer here too i think because of hormones we will fluctuate between diarrhea and constipation, last night I was going so much I ended up bleeding from my bum and then having the ring of fire 10.50pm I was sitting in a shallow bath lol. i also have anal fissures and hemorrhoids though.

Im 8 weeks 3 days and having mix between the 2 still

Eugh yes, for weeks. It did eventually clear up again but it was very annoying for a while.

In my first pregnancy it took me a long time to realise the iron I was taking (in the vitamins and then I was put on tablets) was causing my IBS to flare up so badly.
Once I stopped the tablets it calmed down completely. I was still low in iron and so had liquid iron which tends to be more gentle. I could cope on this.

This pregnancy I rang the doctor and asked for liquid iron straight away. I think it'll take my body a little while to adjust though!

Hello lovelies,

Appreciate this thread has been quiet for a while. I hope you and your bubbas are doing well ❤️

I'm having it super hard at the moment, circa 6 weeks pregnant. IBS has given me terrible bloating and I'm in loads of pain and discomfort, as If I swallowed an air balloon. It's making my nausea 10 times worse, I spend the day hugging the toilet just retching. I'm lucky enough to work from home mainly, but have to go to the office a couple of times in the next few days and it's hours away by car. I'm super worried about the drive and how I'm going to push through the day.
I'm reluctant to tell work just yet but not sure what else I can do. Any advise? Xx
