Stretch and Sweep - 3 to 4 cms dilated no pain, no contractions

I went for my stretch and sweep today. The midwife had a good old rummage up my money box and had trouble getting to cervix as it is in a posterior position. It was quite uncomfortable. However she said that I am favourable cos my cervix is nice and soft and stretchy. The other thing was that she said my cervix is 3 to 4 cms dilated. How can that be. Not had any twinges or pain?
Since sweep had a show a mild dull ache but nowt else. Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated. xx

Ooohh, sounds promising!! Could be a few days yet though. I was 4cm on the Friday, had shows all day Saturday, went to bed Saturday night feeling nothing, woke at 2.15am with some mild contractions and gave birth at 4.45am!

I was 3 cm at 37 weeks, was told I would go into labor shortly, but was still around at 5 cm at 40 weeks. Didn't give birth till 40+5. Didn't feel anything at all to indicate how dilated I was. I got to the hospital about 10 min after starting contractions, and was 8 cm, delivered in 3 hours. Hopefully things will go easy for you.

The weird thing is that this is my first baby!!! I am 36, had no morning sickness, had no other real bad pregnancy symptoms. Now it looks like a pain free labour... I have a baby making body but did n't realise it!! I should have started years ago!! (only joking!!) xxx

It is frustrating cos after being told I am 3 to 4 cms dilated I was hoping the sweep would kick start everything. But nutting has happened. But then if I never felt now for the 3 to 4 cms dilation then perhaps I wouldn't know anyway. I am actually worried I am gonna give birth in the loo like u see on casualty....

The sweep usually takes effect anywhere in the 24 hrs following if it is going to do anything at all.

BTW, PMSL at 'good old rummage up my money box'!!!

With DS2 I had a sweep on the Tuesday afternoon and the midwife said I was about 3cms dilated. Labour didn't kick in until about 30 hours later but when it came it was quick - 2 hours start to finish!
Good luck
