Wetness/increased discharge at 22 weeks

Hi everyone,

I'm Maria, 22+1 weeks pregnant. Sorry for the TMI question ... but recently I've noticed that I have increased watery discharge (my undies get quite wet & I have to change often). I'm wondering- how do I know this is not amniotic fluid leaking? Is there any way to make sure what it is & put my mind at ease?

Thanks
Maria

HI maria,

I had/have this too, i'm 26 weeks pregnant and had it from about 19 weeks. If your at all worried ask your midwife but everything i have read said its normal to have an increase.

it's thrush

you may not think it is but I'd put money on it - thrush in pg can present radically differently to non-pg thrush

see the doc or mw and get a swab and a scrip for Canestan

Thrush? That's strange, didn't even think of that... but I haven't got any itchiness, wouldn't that be one of the signs of thrush?. The only thing I do have recently is an increased need to go to the loo, e.g. during the night. I've gone quite often during the whole pregnancy but now it's much more than the normal-often...

hence why I mention it presents differently to non-pg thrush...

mine didn't itch at all, wasn't white / cheesy etc - I thought it was just normal copious discharge

then I had a (small and non-problematic) bleed and turned up to the assessment unit - the first thing the examining registrar said was 'my goodness, what extensive thrush'...

get swabbed - canestan pessaries cleared mine right up and it was a blessed relief.

generally, this is normal and discharge can get really heavy...get checked out but if all ok, try pantyliners to reduce the pant-changing activity. Just another one of the joys!

Just wanted to agree with mrsmacaroon. This was something i experienced when pg. No one warned me (funnily enough) about just quite how much extra jungle juice there would be. Quite horrific!! And also how much more it would sweat!!
Also, and apologies if TMI, DH found it irritated his bits!! All better now though thankfully!!
