Spotting all week which I thought was my period but I’m pregnant?

First month trying for our second. Did several tests when period was due and negative but felt pregnant. Then been spotting all week, I was waiting for it to develop into proper bleeding but it didn’t. I did have a little bit of red when I wiped yesterday but other than that just brown on and off.

I think I must’ve ovulated much later than I thought, I have PCOS but my periods were regular when I conceived my son although I had 2 early losses before that with bleeding in early pregnancy. With my son I didn’t have any early bleeding.

I called the maternity unit of my hospital as soon as I got the positive as I’m worried about the bleeding and also I was drinking this week as I felt sure I wasn’t pregnant. I’ve had about 15 units over the week, Friday night was the worst as I had a glass of wine and 2 cocktails.

I feel terrible for drinking as I felt so sure I wasn’t 😭

clCan anyone tell me positive stories of where they didn’t know they were pregnant and were drinking but then found out they were pregnant and it was fine?

Im going to call my GP tomorrow to try to get progesterone.

this is my test today, it’s an early detection test but not FMU as I did it just now.

thanks in advance x

Was at a conference with a load of drinkers in early, unknown, pregnancy. Said child has just got their PhD. Please don't worry.

@margegunderson thank you ❤️ I wasn’t having caffeine or alcohol while we were trying last month but when I kept getting negatives I was like well at least I can enjoy a drink!

I’m also worried about the bleeding as this has never ended well for me. But I know every pregnancy is different and I know progesterone can help people who have had early spotting so I’m hoping for the best 🤞🤞🤞

and tentatively happy and excited 🥰❤️

I had spotting that I thought was my period but it never got going. I took a test which was positive. Sadly the first time this happened end in an early MC but the following month the same thing happened and thought it must be the MC affecting my cycle I got a pregnancy test and I'm now 29 weeks pregnant. Congratulations on your positive test 🙂

I had a weekend binge drinking with uni friends and enjoying all Alton Towers had to offer before I found out I was pregnant. That one is at Uni himself now.

Hope all goes well for you. I don't know about the spotting but that amount of drinks is nothing to worry about.

@BlueRabbitWasNaughty thank you ❤️ I think I’m still in shock! The uncertainty with the spotting is worrying but fingers crossed it’ll just be implantation and will be fine, I know lots of women get a bit of bleeding and it’s all ok, but I’ve not had good experience with it.

@wannabe123 so sorry for your loss ❤️ but congratulations on your current pregnancy xxx

I’ve also been slightly nauseous on and off this week and thought I was just run down and coming down with something.

im going to get another test tomorrow and save some FMU to do another test to see how strong the line is.

I feel a bit reassured now regarding the drinking, just worrying about the spotting now, it’s like a brown discharge. I guess it could still be implantation.

Well here it is - Tesco cheapie with FMU, clear as day.

is it normal for implantation bleeding to last a week? Hoping it will subside now, currently in a queue on the phone to GP to try to get progesterone.

I think you'll find the number of women drinking in very early pregnancy when they didn't get know they were pregnant is pretty high. I know I was, my DS is fine.

For several days of the pregnancy it won't even have been implanted yet. Just stop drinking now, and try not to worry.

And, congratulations!

Peonyyyy · 22/04/2024 10:24

@sosickofbeingskint thank you! I got a strong line on a test this morning and spotting seems to have subsided so I’m hoping it was just implantation and it’s all going to be alright 🤞

Don't worry about drinking at that early stage, placenta won't take over until much later. And congratulations! 🙂

Peonyyyy · 23/04/2024 11:29

@Olika thank you ❤️

I had a little light pink discharge this morning, so I’m worried again. Tried EPU for progesterone but they wouldn’t give me it as I’m not under the care of a gynaecologist who could write them a letter to prescribe. Tried a gynaecologist at the hospital who I spoke to briefly last time about my miscarriages but she never actually gave me anything for it.

then I also have tried emailing the private fertility consultant who gave me progesterone last time, it’s just they are expensive so I didn’t really want to have to go down that route.

but I’m desperate now, want to do what I can to protect this pregnancy ❤️

I have PCOS and have had spotting with both my pregnancies that lasted from 4w until around 11w. Both times, i had an early scan at around 6-7w (DD1 as she was a result of fertility treatment and DD2 at EPU). I wasnt given progesterone and noone seemed to be able to tell me why the spotting went on for so long? I do wonder if its connected to the PCOS? But all was well in the end. Wishing you lots of luck!!

Cbljgdpk · 23/04/2024 11:37

This is very similar to what happened to me; I had bleeding that I thought was a period but I was actually pregnant and I’d had a few drinks.
I also had a bleed at 6 weeks but it was all fine and rest of the pregnancy was fine and baby healthy

Peonyyyy · 23/04/2024 14:11

@Cbljgdpk @ProjectKettle thank ypu for the reassurance ❤️

I think I’m just nervous because I had this pink/brown spotting with my miscarriages but with my healthy pregnancy which resulted in my son I didn’t have any spotting at all. But I know every pregnancy is different 🤞

I’m now 6 weeks, had brown spotting again for the last 2 days 😭 this morning it was back to white but there was a little fleck of red (sesame seed sized) this was after a bowel movement so not sure if that had anything to do with it.

urgh it’s so worrying! Trying to get ready for a nice bank hol weekend but it’s hard to think about anything else. I have a scan booked for 8.30am on Tuesday at EPU.

Just updating in case anyone finds this thread in the future, all was well today at my scan, measuring behind but that’s ok as I didn’t get a positive test until a week after my period was due so that makes sense.

baby and heartbeat seen, dated 5.4 weeks. Not out of the woods yet but feeling reassured for now, I cried when I saw it!
