After 2 MCs last year I am having my dating/wellbeing scan on Friday at 11+6 weeks... I'm terrified :-(

I feel so anxious about this scan, can't believe that it will show a happy thriving feotus. Know a couple of people in RL who have had MMCs so I am terrified that that will happen to me.

Symptoms are easing up now, so that makes me panic even more.

Hi milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo - Nothing I can say to make this better, I've been there and I know the anxiety was driving me mad. Try to do anything to take your mind off it for a few minutes, go see a movie or go for a facial or anything that you enjoy.

If it helps at all I had 2 m/c's last year - July & Oct - and had convinced myself that this time around my body was just being inept and it was a mmc, very glad to report that wasn't the case and I'm now 19 weeks. All I need to worry about now is keeping myself sane until next Mondays 20 week scan. After 2 you become convinced that every pregnancy is doomed but luckily the statistics are on our side and there is more chance that you are carrying a healthy baby this time around than otherwise.

Good luck and take care,

It is only natural to be worried, I am sure that I remember my symptoms with my 2 dc's easing up around the 12 week mark and I thought that the scan was well timed.

Good luck for Friday and do let us know how you get on.

I know exactley how you are feeling.

Had a mmc in October 07 and this was found
on my dating scan.

Have had my booking in appointment today and am waiting until after the scan to get the blood tests done. Not even looking at any of the information until after the scan.
My scan is this Friday and know I won't be able to look at the monitor - feeling sick just thinking about it.

HeyThereGeorgieGirl · 31/03/2008 13:19

I can't offer any advice. Just that I've had 2 m/c in four months so can totally empathise with your terror. Want to wish you the very best of luck and ask you to try and relax as much as you possibly can. It's a tall order I know, but try and stay calm for the baby's sake. I've got everything crossed for you. And, your symptoms could be easing up as you're about to enter your second trimester? xx

PABLOP · 31/03/2008 13:20

You will be fine. I had 2 mc and know how you feel, I couldn't imagine them telling me everything was fine but it was! My ds was born in Dec.
Perfectly normal for you to be anxious but try to relax and be positive. I didn't have many early symptons ie sickness, strange taste etc so that doesn't mean anything.
Let us know your due date when you get it.
ps Congratulations

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 31/03/2008 13:24

Got a DD already (2), the symptoms started to lessen at about 10 weeks so for me I guess that is normal.

Have to keep reminding myself that the chance of having a MMC is 2% - very small.

Feel so sad that I haven't enjoyed this pregnancy so far, been filled with anxiety and feeling down.

Thank you for your kind messages

Oh I had a scan at 6.5 weeks and all was well with a little heartbeat and I have a hefty bump, so DH can't understand why I am like this.

His attitude is 'what will be will be'

I cried so hard with joy and relief when my dating scan showed a live foetus that the sonographer had to ask me to keep still so she could continue.

I'm sure you will have the opportunity to disgrace yourself in a similar way .

Nemoandthefishes · 31/03/2008 13:28

completely normal to worry and stress..before I had ds I had 2mcs at around 5 and 7wks. I was so stressed with ds but he is now 4.5yrs and a lively bean!! I did have a mmc after him which was not nice but since that I also have 2 gorgeous little girls who are 2.3yrs and 15mths!!

Nemoandthefishes · 31/03/2008 13:30

if you have already seen a heartbeat at such an early stage it is quite unlikely to be a mmc..however you will still stress and will do so right through until you have the baby..then its a whole other ball game of stress as you know!!

expatinscotland · 31/03/2008 13:32

just tell them you had mc's in the past.

let them know if you don't want to see the screen, or if you'd like to get dressed before they tell you anything, things like that.

i had missed m/c last year, so i know how you are feeling!

i had the same spotting i've had with every pregnancy, including the missed m/c, so had to go for a scan myself this past friday.

boy, was i a wreck.

i didn't even want to see the screen until the lady asked me if i wanted to see my baby, whose heart was beating away.

i, too, cried tears of joy.

only 9 weeks, but still there.

good luck to you on Friday. keep us posted.

orangehead · 31/03/2008 13:33

Good luck milk. I have been there too, 3 mcs. I was so nervous with scan on 4th. Then sonographer I had must of had some tic and she kept shaking her head while she was scanning me I was trying my best to hold back the tears thinking it was bad news again. She finally announced all was well whilst she continued shaking her head. Ds now 6 despite continuing to panic through the preg (bleeding at 13 weeks and again at 18 weeks with contractions). Sorry just realiized I am waffling on. Hope all goes well and will be thinking positive vibes for you

Jackstini · 31/03/2008 13:35

Hi Milf - I remember you from the mc threads last year. So happy you are pg again but also understand you must be so scared about Friday.
Here's hoping it is good news for you - what time on Friday are you in?

Jackstini · 31/03/2008 13:36

ps - Fab news Expat!

orangehead · 31/03/2008 13:44

great news expat

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 31/03/2008 13:44

Appointment is at 8.55am, so at least I won't be hanging around.

milf - good luck for friday - I think it would be an idea to tell the sonographer staright off about your fears and then you can get the reassurance straight away. Orangehead's experience of the shaking head would have terrified me - and I've been lucky enough to carry without any problems!

Expat - that is brilliant news

imopop · 31/03/2008 19:30

milf, You will be worried thats natural. I has six miscarriages in 2 years and I am now 29 weeks pregnant. this is my 8th preganacy as i have one lovely DD. I have had scans every six weeks and every one I am bundle of nerves. However since 15 weeks I have felt this one moving which is so reassuring. just before every scan my symptoms seem to go and then once its done they return. Just tell the sonographer when you go in and very best of luck on frixx

milfAKAmonkeymonkeymoomoo · 04/04/2008 13:08

THank you for your kind messages of support.

Had my scan this morning... made me 12+5 and the baby is VERY active

I am thrilled, still a bit cautious but relieved.
