Growth Scan

Hi,
Just looking for a little advice:

My consultant has asked me to have a growth scan in the next fortnight (34 weeks). I think that this is pretty standard.

He's given me the card of a place in London to get it done, but I'm wondering if I can get this done anywhere that does UltraSound scans - It would be much easier to go to my local hospital (either NHS or Private) rather than go into London for it.

Anyone? [grin}

Thanks!

Hiya,

I am a little confused - surely any extra scans you might be recommended, i.e. a growth scan should be done in the hospital you are due to give birth?? Has he refered you to a private company to have it? Seems strange to me!!

Blue x

Thanks Blue....

I am going private........... Though I am not sure why he's given me an external company to get the scan done there?

Do you think I should phone to check?

Why don't you ask him youcannot? My doctor wants me to have a growth scan at 34 weeks too - but he does all my scans anyway, so it is not an issue. But why don't you ring his secretary and ask if he would mind if you went elsewhere? Maybe he prefers a particular place, and finds them more reliable etc. Who's your doctor?

I wish they did growth scans here, they are not done and think I have a BIGGGGGGG baby in here! I am 39 weeks now so too late. if the DR says you need one they should do it at the hossy surely?

But, surely it doesn't matter which hospital, Right?

I'd just prefer to save having to go into London if I can go to my local hospital - there's a BMI place just a few mintues from me which would be far easier.........

thanks

If your OB has recommended you go somewhere in particular I would ask him before you go elsewhere. Maybe he likes these people and works with them a lot and finds them reliable. Or maybe he was just being helpful but doesn't mind. I am sure it will be fine but why not ring his secretary or send him an email and ask? What's the bother?

The bother is that I'm a lazy bint and can't be bothered to go back into London if I can have the scan done at the BMI hospital just around the corner!!!
