other than wraps are there any carriers suitable from 4lbs? i want one that i can use to take my older one to nursery (a five min walk) but my first was born at 34 weeks and only 4lbs so couldn't use one for a while.

One that puts the weight on your wasit rather than your shoulders would be great and not a wrap one as I'll never remember how to put it together properly

Caboo close sling- is a 'ready made' wrap sling and you can use from 2.3kg.

Similar to pp. Kangaroo care from amazon, the back is pre wrapped so it's easy to put on.

I have the carrier above for my little one. It’s from 3.5lbs. It’s so good. Magnetic clips and really easy to put on. It has an extra section for smaller babies. ♥️

sorry it’s 3.5kg which is 7lbs. So it’s not suitable. Sorry 🙈

Caboo close is great. Soft like a wrap, no complicated tying so very easy to put on. My baby was bigger though, I don't think the carrier was recommended for as small as 4lb

FYI, you won't find a sling with specs for a baby that weight, it's against the guidelines sling/carriers manufacturers have to follow in England. I think the minimum weight is 2.3kg but most carriers are around 3.5 kg.

I would use the caboo if I were you, it's a good compromise between a sling and a carrier for small babies.
But you can also have a look at the ergobaby carriers and buy the separate newborn insert (only compatible with some models).

I tried to use a carrier with my eldest when he was just 2.5kg and honestly it didn't feel safe at all, his head was way too low. My daughter was about the same weight and we got the insert, it was much better as it raised her head and also looked more comfy for her small legs as she was sitted on the pillow rather than her legs pushed against my waist.

Also, the Caboo is great but will put the weight more on your shoulders - which you said you didn't want. That's why I personally stopped using it around 5-6 months.

Check out the ergobaby, you can find loads on vinted and marketplace, and the insert isn't very expensive.

I had the close caboo for my premature baby for this reason and that I didn't need to learn how to tie a sling but it’s like a sling
