DH has kindly just given me a shoulder massage. I now remember reading somewhere that massages aren’t carried out before 12 weeks for safety reasons. I’m worried. It will be ok surely as it’s nowhere near baby?

Thanks :-)

🤔

StSwithinsDay · 05/04/2024 22:27

It's fine.

shenandoahvalley · 05/04/2024 22:27

🤦‍♀️

No, your shoulder massage will not endanger the foetus in your womb. These things are aimed at full body massages including of the abdomen.

There is no connection between massages and a pregnancy continuing. Massage therapists just don't want to be blamed for the very common and coincidental happening of first trimester miscarriage, even though it wouldn't have anything to do with them. Why would we need abortions if a massage could end a pregnancy?

Oh bless you, OP. You’re fine my lovely. Tell DH he can massage away! Congrats x

Mumsnet bingo means you will soon have someone telling you to get therapy because this kind of anxiety is not normal (I mean, they might be right but I don't know your backstory and maybe you have good reason to worry).

Thank you for being kind. Pregnancy after loss is tough .. even if I’ve already done it all before x

You will be fine, apart from the obvious being careful of the abdomen in pregnancy it's mainly the oils you have to careful of with massage, some essential oils aren't safe for use in pregnancy.

FlabMonsterIsDietingAgain · 05/04/2024 22:37

If I remember correctly the risks of getting a massage are low and related more to the oils used rather than the actual of getting a massage.

Take full advantage of shoulder, back, leg and feet massages whenever you can from your DH.

This. If anything could cause a miscarriage, we would know about it. Massage places are just super cautious so they don’t get sued

He can carry on! 😊
As others have said its the oils and abdomen area you need to be careful. I had a back, neck and leg massage at about 6 weeks - I wanted to treat myself on my honeymoon! And it was fine, I'm 31 weeks now, and have had 2 losses previously so wouldn't want to do anything to harm my chances.
