Traces of blood in urine and possible thrush at 9 weeks

So I had my first midwife appointment today (9 weeks), she took a urine sample and said I had traces of blood in my urine. Everything else was clear and I have no symptoms of a UTI so it doesn’t sound like an infection.

She mentioned that the urine could have been contaminated with discharge as I didn’t take the sample from mid flow. I did have an internal scan 3 days ago and prone to cervix irritation so wondering if it could be that? Although I’ve had no vaginal bleeding at all.

She also tested for thrush as I’ve had thick, lumpy discharge the last few days (not loads of it, just noticed when I wiped). Could this be related?

Can anyone offer any advice? I’m worried it could be something more serious!

Did they say they were sending the sample off for testing?

Yeah she has sent it off and said she will call next week only if something comes up. But because the other markers on the urine test were clear, she doesn’t think it’s an infection

I've had the same lumpy discharge as you and also my urine has come up with some leukocytes in every dip test I've had so far but both swaps and urine have come back negative from labs (had 2 of each sent off). No idea what's causing it 🤷🏼‍♀️

So strange isn’t it! After a bit (a lot) of googling last night, it seems like it just happens for some people with no real cause. I was worried it could mean miscarriage but Google doesn’t point to that. How far along are you?

I'm 9+5- had a scan last night with a healthy looking baby so no issues so far (touch wood)! I was worried about the same with an untreated infection but I have no burning or itchiness either so trying not to worry too much..

thats great to hear! We are only a few days off :) I’ve heard it can also be contamination with discharge… so maybe just that. Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy x

I had some traces of blood in my urine when I was pregnant and it’s exactly what your midwife said, I wasn’t doing the sample properly - mid flow. Had it with both pregnancies and have 2 healthy children so hopefully its nothing to be worried about!

I had the exact same thing at the same time, treated for thrush and it went away! I also had leukocytes in my urine throughout my pregnancy and was told that was common and not a concern. All was well and I have a healthy baby now. I wouldn’t worry but maybe ask to be prescribed Canesten, don’t use the applicator it comes with though x

@Hiddenvoice @pumpkinpiee thank you both this is really reassuring! I will make sure I do mid flow next time 😅 waiting to hear back from swabs and urine sample but discharge has gone back to normal now (although slightly yellow since preg?) so that is hopefully a good sign
