Had a private wellbeing scan today and they took this 4D scan. I’m 16 weeks so appreciate it still has a lot of developing to do but wondering if it looks like a cleft palate

If they suspected a cleft lip they would have told you and referred you back to your booking hospital for further investigation.

All 4D scans look like that. They're so creepy and have no resemblance at all to a baby.

No it doesn’t, and they’d have told you if there were any issues like that.

Wasn’t sure if this was in the realms of what a private scan offers as they say they only check ’some abnormalities’

I had a 4D scan at 37 weeks and saw a perfectly formed little face. Wasn't planned, but baby was in a great position and the option was there so the sonographer did it.

At the stage you're at everything is still developing so they really do look like a little alien. They'll look for a cleft palate at the 20 week scan, which is much more accurate. Try not to worry.

To be pedantic, they will look for a cleft lip at the 20 week scan, not a cleft palate.

Cleft palates are very difficult to see on a scan and so are generally diagnosed after birth.

I would think if your private scan had suspected a cleft lip, they would have said something. Please try not to worry.

^^ This. My baby was born with a cleft palate and I had no idea pre birth. Tbh I'd never even heard of it previously. If its on your radar for whatever reason mention at the 20 week scan to see if they can do anything and check post birth.

I wouldn't worry, try to enjoy the pregnancy as much as you can and look after yourself :)
