Just want to preface this by saying I know I can't know for sure without a scan but wanted to ask if anyone had been through the same

So I think I am 6weeks 4 days. I've self referred to the midwife but not had a booking appointment yet as it's a bit early.

On Friday when I think I was 6+1 I had some cramps on and off throughout the day. Not particularly painful but noticeable. On Saturday morning I went to the loo and when I wiped I had bright red/pink blood on the tissue. It was more than a spot but not gushing. I put a pad on but when I went to the loo about 2 hours later there was nothing on it and when I wiped there was just some brown blood.

Since then I've had no more bleeding at all. My boobs still hurt a bit but I had no other pregnancy symptoms like nausea so can't really judge anything off a decrease in symptoms.

As it's BH weekend I haven't really known who to contact as according to the maternity section of my local hospitals website unless I'm past 18 weeks nothing is available to me outside of Monday-friday via a GP referral.

Oh I did text a midwife to explain the situation and ask to be referred to the EPAU as she had texted me last week to say she would be in touch about my booking appt so I had her number but I haven't had a response.

Any words of advice or has anyone been through this before?

I had spotting around 6 weeks, and had a scan in the EPU as I had a MC before - it was all ok. Call your local EPU in the morning but in my area you have to get referred by your GP. If it helps, when I had a miscarriage, the spotting only continued and got worse.

Check with your trust but in mine you can self refer to EPAU and don’t have to go through the GP.
Im in a similar position to you and have a scan in the morning, best of luck xx

I had exactly this at 6 weeks and I had a bleed in my womb but was told to rest and then scanned again. I have a healthy 7 year old running around so it can work out - I'll cross my fingers for you!!

I contacted the OOO at first as I had severe cramping and they thought it might be ectopic and then went to the EPU. I think you can self refer to the EPU or contact your GP tomorrow.

On the website it says I need to be referred by a GP or midwife as well so I will submit a GP request in the morning to explain and hope I can be seen there. Just hoping they don't say they can't see me for a week or two as I'll go out of my mind. At that point I'll probably see if I can get a private scan but I know I'm only just reaching the point where there would be a heartbeat anyway :/

Thank you for the info about the spotting you experienced x

I hope your scan goes well, fingers crossed for you! On the hospital website it says I need to be referred by a GP or midwife so I'll have to wait to submit a GP online request thingy in the morning!

I didn't have any spotting or bleeding when I had my first child so this has worried me.

Neither did I and it scared me so much. I was really overdoing it though and it made me rest for a while and listen to my body! Try and rest as much as you can and contact the EPU.

Congratulations on your pregnancy,
I am currently 29 weeks pregnant, when I first tested I shortly after had a gush of bright red blood, went to GP who said I had miscarried (although they hadn’t actually done any tests). Week later had no further bleeding and tests still positive so went for early scan at EPU and I was in fact still pregnant with a healthy heart beat and so far everything is still progressing well. I have even had couple more little bleeds throughout my pregnancy journey so far as well and everything still is well. Wish you all the best and hope this can shed some reasurrance, I know first hand how anxiety inducing this all is 🥰

Ah I'm so glad it's all working out for you, and it's reassuring to read everyone's replies that it is possible to go on to have a healthy pregnancy after bleeding.

I submitted a GP request this morning and the receptionist rang me within 20 minutes to say they had sent the referral to the EPAU and that an advanced practitioner was going to call me at 9am to discuss. She also said that it can take time for the EPAU to come back to me with an appointment so they recommended I go to A&E after my call with the advanced practitioner but that seems extreme as I haven't had any bleeding since Saturday so I'll see what they say on the phone at 9am and take it from there.

It’s strange they make you go through GP, I’ve always been able to call EPU directly and they’d seen me.

could ask GP to check your HCG blood over 48/72hrs to see they are rising, I would be pushy with GP some don’t have a clue about pregnancy which I’ve learnt .

hopefully it’s just implantation bleeding which mine was especially because you’ve nit had anymore!

keep us updated xx

Yeah the GP said they'd referred me, then the advance practitioner I spoke to said there was no note of a referral that she could see but to ring the EPAU myself. So I rang them and had to leave a voicemail, then someone rang me back and said they hadn't received a referral, and that they usually wouldn't give me an appointment just for calling and would ask me to go back to the GP for an actual referral, but then she said she'd "feel mean to turn me away" so has booked me in for an appointment tomorrow... So it's been very convoluted but at least I have an appointment for tomorrow now!

Still had no further bleeding so fingers crossed!

As an update in case anyone comes across this thread in the same situation in future -

I had a transvaginal scan this morning and everything is fine! Measuring a few days behind where I thought but this may be due to slightly inaccurate measurements due to how early I am.

Heartbeat and yolk sack seen, and saw the blood going round it too :)

They're not sure why I bled and nothing came up on the scan to show a bleed.
