THRUSH - HEEEELP

Hi everyone -
I am 34 weeks pregnant and have had thrush since before I even knew I was pregnant (around 4 weeks) - I never ever had it before I got pregnant.
I have used internal treatments 4 or 5 times usually the internal cream and then the external cream as well, but it always comes back. The pessary I used two weeks ago cleared it totally by the next morning and I was thrush-free for four blissful days. . . but it came back . I called the doctor and she gave me an internal cream - worked for about 2 days.
People keep telling me I need to treat my BF as well, and he has been using the external cream too, but the DR said its unlikely he is passing it back to me as he is circumsised. Last time when it came back in two days I didn't have sex and used only brand new underwear - still it came back.
I have team-led midwives, so I see a different woman every time. They all tell me the same thing - its just part of pregnancy, and they give me a treatment and don't even write it in my notes. They don't seem to be understanding that it's an ongoing problem, if I had the same midwife everytime I'm sure she'd get bored of my complaining and investigate it properly, instead of brushing it off.
Has anyone had this before? Why won't it go away??? someone please help!

This might sound a bit revolting, but what has always worked for me is to put a bit of natural yoghurt with all the bifides, bug things on the end of a tampon and wear it for a day.

I also eat loads of natural yoghurt and take bifides supplements from the health food shop when I've got an attack of thrush. You could also try laying off anything too yeasty for a while and I would DEFINATELY treat your other half with the cream no matter what your Dr says.

I've tried the bio-yogurt thing!! Applying it to the area and also eating it first thing in the morning before having anything else. . . didn't work
I might try taking a suppliment though

Hi. Am currently on Candida diet (which gets rid of the thrush bacteria in the body). It's fairly intense - no sugars (inc fruit) or yeasts, but it's really working for me as I suffered a lot from thrush and various other symptoms. There's lots of info on the web.. try candidadiet.com
I also eat natural yoghurt, but there are supplements recommended on the website, although being pregnant it ,ight be worth seeing a nutritionist. Hope you manage to shift it!

I've always been a Candida sufferer - before and during pregnancy. Definitely treat your BF, and definitely cut out sugar from your diet. I found that stress makes my thrush worse too, but that probably isn't so easy to deal with in the at 34 weeks pregnancy.
To be honest, last time the only thing that really cleared it up was to take Diflucan. I know that a lot of doctors are reluctant to prescribe it in pregnancy though, especially as thrush is seen as a "minor" condition. There are also other creams and pessaries, not just Canasten, which might work better in your case. Have you been offered any of those?
If the thrush keeps coming back with no obvious source (ie no sex, new knickers) then it's likely that the Candida have infected your digestive system and that's where the reinfection is coming from. So changes to diet, taking probiotics and, as a last resort, Diflucan are probably the way to go.

EmmaRose,no helpful advice but just to say,don't feel alone! I've had thrush for the first time, but it started after Easter- last year! Had antibiotics and 2 days later- wham. I've been on various creams and pessaries, and I'm nearly 36 weeks pg and still got it. Even when I'm nowhere near DH (can't remember the last time we got it together, so can't blame him at all). I've come down to the 'it must be all the yeast and sugar I'm eating' thing but also I'm not in a place where I can watch my diet. I'm eating what I want when I can (toddler dependant), and seeing as its almost a year I've had it I'll think about watching my diet after the birth. I haven't been persistent in going back to GPs though, I guess when this cream runs out (it'll work for a day or two, then its back).
