12 week scan but only 11 weeks

Hi all - I will have my 12 week scan on Tuesday 9th April; I will be 11 weeks + 5 days then according to my last period but I will only be 11 + 3 according to when I ovulated (I know when I ovulated as I had a HCG trigger). I’m just worried things may be too small and they won’t be able to do the measurements / NT scan? I’ve read a few stories of women going at 11 weeks and being told to come back a week or two later, and just wondered if anyone had any experience of this?

Hi OP, please don’t worry. Although people call this “the 12 week scan”, it’s actually called “the dating scan”. It does not have to be done at 12 weeks, it can be done anytime between 10 and 14 weeks, so you’re well within the window for when the scan is meant to be done. Try not to focus too much on the “12 weeks”, this is just what people refer to it as, anywhere 10-14 weeks is absolutely fine x

@Mrsttcno1 thanks for replying - I am probably worrying unnecessarily (would not be the first time, and won’t be the last!!) - I just read online somewhere that 11+3 is the absolute earliest they can do the NT measurement, so I feel like I’m cutting it a bit fine! Most of my friends haven’t had their ‘12 week’ scan until they were about 13 maybe even 14 weeks, so I was surprised when the letter came through to say I would be a bit earlier! Thanks again x

Don't worry. If it's too early they'll just tell you to come back and you get a bonus extra scan. It will be reassuring to see the baby and they will be able to get the dating measurement at least.

I wouldn't worry, and also remember that implantation has a window of around 7-12 dpo so even though you know ovulation, the dates won't necessarily match up. Also foetal growth is different for everyone. just saying to be prepared to be 'dated' a bit earlier or later than you think, that happens to most people. If it's too early, they'll just get you to come back.

mine is at 11w3d too - how did yours go in the end? @hopingforapeainapod

The '12 week scan' as others have said is normally conducted between 11 and 14 weeks. If it turns out to be a little early to get any of the measurements they need to then they'll just invite you back for another.
Nothing to worry about.
