Can't sleep first trimester

Hello mammas! I'm 5 weeks pregnant and since testing positive 8 days ago I have really struggled to sleep properly. I understand my body is diverting energy to the little jellybean growing inside me but is there anything one can do to help with the sleep side of things?

For context - I can fall asleep fine, and I'll sleep 5-6 hours through the night and then wake up at crazy hours of the morning (4am/5am) and just can't sleep anymore, I'm "ready to go"! I also doubt the quality of the sleep I am getting is amazing, so anything to help with deep sleep would be fab.

I used to take 3mg melatonin a night (light sleeper in the best of times) but have stopped since testing pregnant as not sure it is safe. I started taking magnesium a few days ago - too soon to tell if it's having an impact.

I am generally healthy and very active, eat well, etc. Leave phone outside the bedroom, read book to sleep, etc. Basic sleep hygiene.

Appreciate any tips you may have! Xx

I’m 21 weeks and not slept through the night since week 5 lol toilet trips every 2 hours 😂😂

I had this from 5 weeks to 20 weeks, I used to wake every morning at 4am and couldn’t get back to sleep. I didn’t find anything that helped unfortunately apart from going to bed earlier (8pm) to make sure I was getting enough sleep.

Sorry OP, I don’t have any tips, I’m shamelessly commenting to see if I can also get any tips!
I’m 7wks, and not slept properly for the past 3 or so weeks. Takes me a little while to fall asleep, but then I wake up in 2 to 3 hour intervals. I’m exhausted.

I’ve read it could be hormones, but I also think there’s some anxiety there too for me

@crossfitmama No tips but im coming up to 4 weeks and this is happening to me now, looks like I need to maybe go be earlier, come afternoon early evening I'm so drained

@UnicornPrincessSarah @Figtree11@excitedmama2be it is the worst!

I am not experiencing anxiety @Figtree11, but I had in the past and I usually take to journalling and walks, which really help me — have you tried that? 🤷🏽‍♀️

Thanks @Bali200 — I worry if I go to bed earlier I will wale up even earlier but sounds like that may not be the case??? I will try that!

Me too! Shattered and generally wanting to go to bed around d 9pm. Falling asleep easily but waking up at 3am pretty much everyday. I can be awake for an hour or two before eventually going back to sleep till 6-7am. I miss good sleep!

Totally normal. I think I started sleeping again about 10 weeks.

(then stopped sleeping through the night about 28 weeks due to needing a wee!)
