14w3d - when does the crushing tiredness end and this new lease of energy begin? 🥱

For the first 12 weeks, my tiredness increased such that instead of going to bed at 11, I was feeling tired from about 7:30/8pm and would go to bed at 9pm. I did wake up in the night for the loo and depending on the time of this, I wouldn’t always be able to get back to sleep afterwards.

I was hoping at 12 weeks the much vaunted ‘new lease of energy’ would arrive, I’ve had colleagues telling me I’ll want to start painting the house! Even the doctor told me last week that I “should be feeling more energetic now.” 😕

However from 12 weeks, the tiredness has got much, much worse. I can set my clock by it. From 3:30pm, working day or weekend, I become absolutely shattered. It’s like a fog of exhaustion descends. I can’t even make dinner without having to sit down while preparing the food. There’s no way of writing a work report or having a meeting. It’s affecting my life, my work, and my wellbeing.

I am also continuing to need the loo in the night, despite the NHS website saying this should stop by now, and again this isn’t helping.

Does anyone know why this might be happening and can anyone tell me when it might stop please?

I think you did well in the first trimester to only feel tired from 7.30pm and go to bed at 9, I felt as you do now in the first trimester then it improved to feeling tired in the evening in second trimester. Everyone is different so it may just be that this bit is the most exhausting for you until you reach the 3rd trimester. Going to the loo doesn’t stop, gets worse in the third trimester too. You could mention it at your 16 week appointment though as they could do a test to see if iron levels are low, but if normal then it’s probably just normal pregnancy.

Following with interest because I’m in the same boat. I didn’t feel very tired during the first trimester, but since I hit week 14, I struggle if I’m out all day and I’m useless after 6pm.

38 weeks tomorrow and I'm still exhausted and not had the burst of energy thing people speak of lol. I am on iron supplements tho as my iron is quite low!

Awaywiththeferries123 · 24/03/2024 09:00

Get your iron and B12 levels checked if you haven’t already.

PixieTrance89 · 24/03/2024 09:05

The burst of energy hasn't happened for me and I am 23 weeks now but I do have low iron so might be worth getting that checked out

Thank you all. @Awaywiththeferries123 you have just made me add up some bits of the jigsaw. I had my iron levels tested about three weeks ago and all was fine. However, at that same appointment I was told to stop taking a pregnancy multivitamin (long story), so since then I’ve just been taking standalone folic acid, Vit D and Vit C. So that means I’ve not supplemented with any iron or B vitamins at all for the past three weeks. It potentially links with when this tiredness came on. I’ll get some standalone tablets today. If this could be the answer I would be over the moon!

I never did stop being absolutely knackered the whole time. I didn't 'bloom'. Bloods all okay. But on a positive side my long term chronic illness disappeared for length of pregnancy !

TeaPleaseX · 24/03/2024 10:29

Never got the burst of energy at all. I'm now in that shit stage of being exhausted and not being able to sleep at night due to insomnia. Still only 27 weeks!

Skyla01 · 24/03/2024 11:37

My last pregnancy I was up to pee up to four times a night the whole way through. Was really annoying. My tiredness went away about 16 weeks then came back in th third trimester. This time only peeing once or twice a night. Exhausted first trimester and tiredness hasn't gone away completely. I still have awful days now at 33 weeks.

So everyone is different, each pregnancy is different. I had my bloods checked at 12 weeks at a routine appointment but worth checking iron levels (mine are fine I'm just knackered).

Blue2020 · 24/03/2024 20:37

I felt incredibly tired, turned out my ferritin levels were low and started the tablets at 11 weeks. I suppose by 18 weeks I started to feel less tired at 4pm and could last until 8pm before going to bed.

Oh going to the toilet in the night just got worse for me, started going 2-3 times. I did increase the water I drank though so I was causing it to an extent. If I didn’t I would wake up very dehydrated though.

17 weeks here, exhausted, still peeing at night, very very depressed for no apparent reason and crippled by pelvic pain. A friend of mine who just had a baby said that, for her, the exhaustion was at its worst in the second trimester.

If one more person lectures me about how amazing the second trimester is and how I should be having a great time, will get punched in the face. I actually had a guy tell me to cheer up because making a baby should feel amazing and I shouldn't be negative. I hate men now.

Thank you all. I have woken up feeling so glum this morning. Just been reading on another thread a poster who had a ‘miracle at 12 weeks today,’ she woke up full of energy!

I bought some iron and B complex vitamins yesterday so will see how they go. I desperately hope they help.

I am so far behind at work due to being so tired that I am tempted to phone in sick this week but actually spend the time catching up on all my tasks 😞
