Hello,

I just wondered if anyone can relate and put my mind at rest. I have been tested for a UTI 3 times and every time it was clear even when it was sent off to the lab.

In the last 2 weeks I have been peeing non stop, I am getting up at least 6 times a night and so I am exhausted :( I am currently 9 weeks pregnant.

does it get better?

That seems excessive to me, especially at that stage of pregnancy.

My GP told me that many UTI tests are inaccurate and don't pick up UTIs so they tend to treat based on symptoms, rather than wait for the test. It seems your GP has a different approach, perhaps is being cautious because of your pregnancy.

I had a UTI treated by antibiotics during pregnancy, so it's not a barrier to taking them.

Would it be possible to ask for a second opinion/show them this article/ask to have a course of antibiotics as a precaution? This must be utterly miserable for you.

The NICE guidelines list the antibiotics safe to take whilst pregnant to treat a UTI. cks.nice.org.uk/topics/urinary-tract-infection-lower-women/management/uti-in-pregnancy-no-visible-haematuria/

That does seem a lot to be honest I get up once or maybe twice and I'm 23 weeks, it is normal to need the toilet more frequently even at 9 weeks but 6 times a night is a lot

Are you maybe just drinking more water than normal OP? I’m currently 36 weeks pregnant and I’m easily up 6 or 7 times in the night for a wee but obviously I’m heavily pregnant now and thanks to baby my bladder must be the size of a peanut, I definitely don’t think 6 times is normal at 9 weeks. At that point your baby really is maybe 3cm, there’s no pregnancy related reason for you to be weeing all of the time. The only thing I would say though is that for me one of my main pregnancy symptoms has been a really intense thirst, I have literally never drank so much water in my life as I have throughout this pregnancy, and obviously drinking more water is always going to lead to more toilet breaks!

I went to the toilet a lot during the first trimester. During the night and all through the day. No sign of any UTI, however early in pregnancy your body has just started to produce more blood so the extra blood flow makes your kidney works harder to flush out the extra liquid.
All completely normal.

I’m 21 weeks now and since about 18 weeks the need to go during the night stopped as the baby moved north of my bladder so I can finally get a full nights sleep! I know that it’ll come back with a vengeance in the third trimester when baby will fill my whole tummy and be constantly on my bladder!
