Hi all

i am a new member today and 7 weeks pregnant. I just have a couple of concerns.
firstly i have 3 cats and i am in a bit of a panic about infections crossed over to the baby from my feline friends, are they still allowed fuss?? Any one know anything about this.......

Also i have been having dull like period pains can i use a hot water bottle to ease these or is this unsafe.

apart from that i am really chilled and excited about the big event

Thanks xxx

Congratulations and welcome to MN

  • wear rubber gloves when cleaning the litter tray, or, better still, make DH do it. Normal fussing over them should be fine though.
  • hot water bottle is fine, better than painkillers

hello, welcome and congratulations

It would be better if you could avoid cleaning out the cats' litter tray, but fussing them and petting them should be absolutely fine.

Like Mrs. B said - hot water bottle absolutely fine and period-like pains are completely normal and should be nothing to worry about.

Agree with MrsB, you have to be careful with cat litter trays - gloves or don't do it yourself, but I don't know of any reason not to fuss the cats. Most likely very calmming and good! The hot water bottle - I don't know. I wouldn't, because of the advice not to do saunas etc, but I may very likely be all wrong about that - local heat to the tummy isn't the same as raising your overall temp, is it?

Thanks for all your quick responses. i feel better now. Cats go outside in the field for toilet so never need to clean out, so looks like all should be fine. thanks xx
