What can I eat when I don’t want to eat?

Just that really! I’ve got some sort of heartburn/indigestion and the thought of putting anything in my mouth fills me with dread! The only thing I’ve thought might be ok is eating some cucumber 😂

So any ideas for lighter things that won’t rest heavy on me and make me throw up? 😂

Beige food is the key!

bilbodog · 10/03/2024 18:07

Toast?

BertieBotts · 10/03/2024 18:10

Chopped up fruit is good.

I lived on gaviscon, dry jacobs cream crackers, granny Smith apples and sparkling water at this stage.

It's so unique, you just have to go with what you like. Would cucumber & sour cream sound nice?

Latenightanxiety · 10/03/2024 18:25

Thanks guys! I love bread but I’m struggling with any bread products they seem very heavy! I’m gonna just go down the fruit and veg route as suggested, I wasn’t sure if it was substantial enough but I managed some dinner earlier so it’s not like I’m not getting anything x

If you can stomach the thought of cucumber maybe try other cold and crunchy things? I found it was often a texture thing and also craved cold things. So raw carrot, Apples that have been in the fridge, I loved those mini gherkin things, l also used to stick bananas in the freezer for a bit.
Also dry cereal. Absolute life saver for me.

Before I was pregnant I went through a phase of awful stress induced reflux and indigestion. I lived on watermelon!

chattyness · 10/03/2024 18:34

if you've got heartburn then try a dry cracker or a rich tea biscuit, then you can usually eat normally once you've soaked up the acid, but really the key when you're feeling iffy is to eat what you fancy, so try that wee bit of cucumber and see how you feel afterwards .

I lived on the ritz crackers you get in a box in the early stages of both my pregnancies.
It was a vicious circle for me, my tummy was empty which made me feel more sick so I didn't eat, my tummy stayed empty. Keep a box of them by the bed and try to have a nibble before you get up, that's what I did and it helped me them get some better food in.

UpsideLeft · 10/03/2024 18:42

Dry crackers is the usual thing and maybe slices of apple

Rosesanddaisies1 · 10/03/2024 20:44

I’ve eaten an awful lot of cereal… cornflakes particularly!

TryingForBabyFirstTime · 11/03/2024 16:42

If your heartburn is really bad that’s it’s impacting what can eat you should ask for a prescription for omeprazole, I started taking this a week or so ago and it’s made such a difference!!

Latenightanxiety · 11/03/2024 21:53

Thanks all! Some good suggestions here I need to work through and see what works! I guess I’m just feeling really frustrated!

Second the omeprazole recommendation! I suffered until 30ish weeks with my second and then couldn't take the heartburn anymore. Wish I'd asked the GP as soon as the heartburn started, it practically melted away as soon as I took the first tablet

When I find it hard to eat anything else I’ve been having little alpro yoghurt pots (I’m non-dairy, hence alpro). I can only assume normal yoghurts would be similar! Nice and cold, easy to eat and lots of flavours to choose from.

I also went through a jelly phase at one point, but found that yoghurt was easier to digest.

Yes exactly this

MiniPumpkin · 11/03/2024 22:12

Definitely get omeprazole. I did this and lived on dry, plain crackers. Had to be plain as couldn’t even face the salted ones

Queen0fEverything · 11/03/2024 22:23

I had really bad sickness when pregnant from the minute I woke up until I fell asleep at night, my fail safe thing to do was eat 2 ryvita crackers with lurpak butter within 5 mins of waking up, and to never let myself get hungry.

mitogoshi · 11/03/2024 22:28

I have chronic heartburn and live on rosemary flavoured crackers

Zippedydoodahday · 11/03/2024 22:43

Another vote for omeprazole. Totally saved me.
