Measuring a week behind on early scan

I had an early private scan yesterday due to a bit of spotting. Found a heartbeat which was great. The sonographer measured me as 6 weeks 3 days, but my dates make me 7 plus 3. My cycle is pretty regular and I don't think we even dtd in the time frame she was proposing. I asked if it could be inaccurate as the baby is so small but she didn't seem to think so. I'm just overly worried as I had a 8 week and 20 week miscarriage. My 20 week miscarriage was due to severe growth restriction so I panic if the dates are under. Has anyone else had this? Thanks.

Yea it’s pretty common for dates to be jumping about when going for early scans hence why the 12week scan is the most accurate one to judge progress and your due date from

I wouldn't overly worry, the window for implantation can be up to a week so you could have ovulated and implanted later than you are thinking. It's so small at that stage that even a mm difference on the measurement will affect the dating.

I had a frozen embryo transfer so dates should be exact, however I measured 5 days ahead at early scan and have maintained that ever since. There are lots of variables such as implantation date, rate of growth and measurement accuracy especially in early scans 1mm can make a huge difference.
There is no way of knowing without repeated scans (we had 6 week and 8 week viability scans) 100% but having a heartbeat is reassuring.

I was five days behind on early scan and it was ivf so I knew the dates where right. It had caught up by 12 weeks. I don’t think it was ever measuring behind, it’s just so small that it’s hard to get it spot on.

I was 6 days behind at an early scan; the consultant said it’s not flagged for concern unless it’s over 7 days’ difference. The dates can jump around a bit early on because growth isn’t linear – I had another scan after the initial one and had jumped a few days ahead again. So I wouldn’t worry! (Easier said than done, but it’s totally normal for there to be a discrepancy in LMP dates and growth measurements.)

I had my first scan at 7+2 due to previous losses. Baby looked healthy with good heartbeat but only measured 6+2 which did worry me a little. I had fortnightly scans at EPU up until 12wks and baby continued to grow healthily but on the trajectory 1 week behind. None of the clinicians were ever worried by this. I'm currently 17+1, had my last scan at 14wks and heard heartbeat at 16+5. All progressing well. 🙏🏼🌈💕

I had spotting and what I thought was 6 weeks and had a scan which showed I was only 5, everything was fine and when I went for my 12 week scan the baby had caught back up to the original dates, the midwife said it's common for the measurements to be a bit off before 12 weeks as the baby is so small!

I've had three miscarriages and measuring behind was always a bad sign for me as I knew my ovulation dates so could tell things were going south each time very quickly. Are you sure of yours or are you going by your LMP?

A heart beat is a good sign of course :)

bradpittsbathwater · 06/03/2024 13:04

I'm not tracking ovulation dates tbh. Never do. Just have sex in the week or so I think I'm fertile. I've been pregnant 4 times now and it's always worked. I guess I'll wait until the next scan unless I have any worrying symptoms.

My cycle is regular though so I don't think I ovulated a week late. There would be no sperm to survive that long I don't think either
