Why do I have worse spots now than I did when I was 15? Where's this glow I was promised?!

I know, another whinge, my pelvis is falling apart and my face looks like pizza. What is going on, I'm 31 and getting a new spot every day, I can't be doing with it!

Is this just a passing mid pregnancy thing? Are you all glowing and spot free?

its a lie, the whole glowy thing is a lie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lollipopmother · 25/03/2008 22:04

I think it's a myth as well, I have a new spot a day as well, I was never even half this spotty as a teenager! I've just bought some clearasil for the first time in 10 years - it says I'll have 'visibly clearer skin in 3 days', I'm holding them to it, if these spots haven't gone in 3 days I want a refund!

EEC · 26/03/2008 10:12

I got very spotty here too. Particularly bad around 20 weeks. I'm now 24 weeks and have been spot free for two weeks, so although I definitely am not 'glowing', there is hope!

Don't know where the thick shiny hair is either. All a huge myth.

AnguaVonUberwald · 26/03/2008 10:19

Its ALL a huge myth. I never, ever had that energy boost that you are promised in the second semester! OH no, I was just exhausted for the whole pregnancy!!! They lie I tell you!

EEC · 26/03/2008 10:22

Yes, nearing the end of second trimester, and dreading 3rd if it's worse than this one!

The annoying thing is that DH expects me to be full of energy, and to be feeling 'amorous' as that's what you hear is the norm. Who can we sue for all this misinformation?!

Expectant · 26/03/2008 10:37

Hi,

I was on a contraceptive pill that helped my skin from the age of 16 (I'm now 31) so I wasn't sure whether it was a return to bad skin from that or as a result of the pregnancy but as the spots didn't appear whilst we were TTC and I have never had spots on my back and chest before I think it must be pregnancy related. It is rubbish - certainly not glowing at 19 weeks.

cityangel · 26/03/2008 14:11

I had the same experience as expectant. I am very frustrated with it all particularly my back as it limits the tops I can look ok in Seeing as I've been ok with sickness and so far escaped other nasty pg symptoms I've just resigned myself to it. I really hope it goes after the birth though

SilverSixpence · 26/03/2008 14:24

me too - got dry red spots on both cheeks - look awful! and have noticed my skin is generally extremely dry

PetitFilou1 · 26/03/2008 14:39

There are several of us with spots on back and decolletage on the Aug antenatal thread. I had it both previous times too. Cityangel, it does go, don't worry! Keep on exfoliating...

alexpolismum · 26/03/2008 14:39

my hair has got thicker but no glossier or shinier, in both pregnancies. My skin has got really dry and for the first time ever my knuckles have started peeling. Glow?? What glow?? Also I'm really knackered. Permanently. No sign of energy burst and I'm just about to start final trimester...

To top it all, hair removal of any kind on the legs, whether shaving, wax or creams results in a nasty itchy red rash, and I never had that before pregnancy. So, I'm resigned to nice hairy legs until further notice. DH actually says he likes it but I think he might just be trying to cheer me up!

hannahjb · 26/03/2008 16:41

alex, tell me about hairy legs, even if it didn't result in a rash, I can't bloody well reach them anyway and to top it all off, I was reading a book about spiders to my 4 year old DS and we came across a bit about spiders having hairy legs and he said, "Mummy, are you a spider?" great, and then if it couldn't get any worse, he said to me after I got out of the shower the other day, "Why are your boobies are hanging down?!!!!!!!" I hate all glowing mums to be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bohemianbint · 26/03/2008 20:50

Oh good, I thought I might be the only unglowing hag-wreck of a mother! Interesting EEC re the 20 week mark, I'll be 20 weeks on Sunday and they just keep coming. Like SilverSixpence, they're all on my cheeks too! Doesn't it mean different things, where you get spots, as in deficiencies in certain places, or something?

Also, I feel like more hair is falling out than coming. I've always had too-thick hair so am not too bothered, just don't want to end up bald!

And ditto re the lack of energy boost - I think I felt normal-ish with DS1, but this time round I'm still nodding off at lunchtime or at 8pm. Rock and roll....

Well i've been using the Clearasil wipes for two days now and miraculously my skin is clearer, can't ruddy believe it!

Amberc · 27/03/2008 12:45
