Mushrooms

Hi,

Just looking for some advice!

My husband cooked dinner tonight - pasta in a tomato sauce with mushrooms. I probably had 3 or 4 slices of mushrooms when I asked him how he had cooked them.

He washed them, sliced them and then put them in with the pasta sauce and stirred until the sauce was hot. I'm now down a rabbit hole worrying that he hasn't cooked the mushrooms properly as he just put them in raw with the sauce until that was hot rather than pre cooking the mushrooms and I'm worrying about possible side effects to baby.

Can anyone advise if this is ok and am I worrying unnecessarily!?

Thank you 🙂

You’re being ridiculous. You will be fine.

Fizzadora · 29/02/2024 19:29

You do know that you can eat raw mushrooms don't you?
They don't really even need washing as they are usually grown in a sterile compost rather than soil, just a wipe if they've gone a bit slimy.
You'll be fine.

This is ok and you are worrying unnecessarily

omg! “Heated up in sauce” is basically cooked. But I didn’t realise mushrooms were dangerous (I opened the thread thinking you were talking about the magic variety!😂)

Theoldcuriosityshop · 29/02/2024 19:34

I eat them raw in a salad.

I did think maybe I should have used a different title after posting 😂😅

I did a lot of research on things I couldn’t eat during pregnancy (around 2011-2017) and I never saw anything about raw mushrooms, so must be a new thing. I ate a lot of chopped raw mushrooms in salad with all 4 children!

Optimistic2021 · 29/02/2024 19:42

I know you can eat them raw but assumed it probably wasn't a good idea in pregnancy!

Glad that the consensus is that I'm worrying over nothing so I will relax and stop thinking about it 😂

Thanks for the replies x

I don't even know if it is a thing, it doesn't mention them on the NHS website so assuming it's ok to eat raw but just wanted some opinions too. I just had a little worry that they weren't cooked properly but seems like it's ok to eat them raw after all.

Previous miscarriage means I worry about the slightest thing! Going to be a long pregnancy 🙃

@Optimistic2021 I haven't seen anything on nhs about raw mushrooms .
I've been nibbling away at raw mushrooms while I cut them everytime I cook them

hangingonfordearlife1 · 29/02/2024 20:04

would you eat a raw tomato or raw carrot? what's the difference?

Alwaystired2023 · 29/02/2024 20:12

Totally get it OP I am so anxious when pregnant x for what it's worth I regularly snack on raw mushrooms first babe is nearly 4 and fine second babe coming along nicely

fleurneige · 29/02/2024 20:15

What are you worried about. Where there ordinary bought mushrooms or wild ones he picked (well not the season for that anyhow). Absolutely nothing to worry about. And I never wash mushrooms either.

Catopia · 03/03/2024 16:53

Supermarket mushrooms fine. I wouldn't go foraging...

PoochiesPinkEars · 03/03/2024 16:55

They were washed, then they got cooked. They're fine.
Fab food for pregnant mum, they contain protein B vitamins and vitamin D. 👌👌👌

TheHennaHairedHarridan · 03/03/2024 16:59

I also thought this was going to be about magic mushrooms.

I wouldn't recommend magic mushrooms in pregnancy, whether raw or cooked 😁.

The normal kind are fine.
