To prevent preeclampsia

There are different reasons it could be prescribed, possibly to prevent miscarriage, help growth of baby etc - do you know if you have any risk factors?

Kiwi23 · 27/02/2024 18:07

I have been told to take it from 12 weeks because I’m on my 4th baby and have previously had preeclampsia

@lesstalkingmorelistening my bmi is 35 and I had lletz on cervix a few years ago. Could be this?

Hey OP. My BMI is high and I’ve been taking Aspirin 150mg from 16 weeks to prevent pre eclampsia

Sara1988 · 27/02/2024 18:22

@AimeeLou84 ah ok. Thank you. Sounds the same for me.

Any previous pregnancies?
I took aspirin from 12 weeks all the way through due to previous complications where my placenta failed, I was never diagnosed with pre eclampsia as my blood pressure was just about teetering on the edge all the way through, but they prescribed aspirin for me just in case. No complications with my second pregnancy.

Littlegoth · 27/02/2024 18:28

If your BMI is 35 that’s a risk factor for clotting and for pre eclampsia, aspirin is the preventative.

I have to take aspirin every day and all through pregnancy due to APS, but even without that I was aged over 35, BMI over 35, and had low PAPP-A so was always going to have it! Take it at night (or with your evening meal) as it’s most effective when taken then.

I was prescribed it because my first baby was small, possibly due to high resistance in the placenta.

I also wasn’t told why, just had it in the follow up letter to start taking it. I did so and clarified why at my 16 week appointment.

Im currently taking 150mg of aspirin from 12 weeks due to previous pre eclampsia. You could be taking them for a number of reasons, but they are for a preventative measure

Tigandgab · 27/02/2024 18:34

I was prescribed it with second child as first had IUGR and i developed high blood pressure at 35 weeks. He was delivered early weighing less than 4lb. With second child i took aspirin up till 36 weeks
