MMR - pregnancy risk?

My ds is due to have his MMR tomorrow and I'm 7 month pregnant, does anyone know if there is any risk to my unborn baby? I'm sure I'm worrying about nothing!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Not at 7 months. And not if you're rubella immune. But check tomorrow. Someone on here with a thread going at the moment had to postpone because of pregnancy and not being rubella immune.

I had exactly the same concerns 7 years ago, Gledhill.

I was told by the GP practice nurse that the MMR vaccine given to the baby is not 'active' and therefore there is no risk.

yurt1 · 24/03/2008 18:10

It is active! (attenuated virus).

also-if you weren't rubella immune they'd know from your blood tests earlier in pg and would tell you-at least round here.

Which is why MMR isn't given to pregnant women (and if you need it yourself and are breastfeeding I'd advise waiting until the baby is post newborn).

BTW...i had already asked at the hospital and they couldn't tell me.
The HV was also unsure of the risk.

sorry x posts!

Gledhill · 24/03/2008 18:14

thanks all, I'm rubella immune so shouldn't be a problem. appreciate the fast responses!

yurt1- it was the other thread that I was looking at that got me wondering! You know so much about MMR!

sorry for the incorrect info..gledhill

It's generally thought that a child isn't going to shed enough for it to be a problem. But I know some cautious doctors don't advise it if the mother is non-rubella immune and pregnant. Really at 7 months that shouldn't be a problem though and rubella status should be known.

oh x-posted. Wish I didn't Gledhill!
