What were some of the early symptoms or unusual symptoms that made you think 'I better get a test.'

I remember my boobs being sore and hard one morning, which isn't unusual depending on my cycle, but it was the severe womb cramping after orgasm that alerted me that something was up.

Weird dreams, felt very hot when I woke up. Then sore boobs. Plus just knew.

I was really hungry. Not “oh I’m a bit hungry” but “if I don’t eat I will be sick”.
I just couldn’t stop eating salty food.

Yes to the early craving for salt, combined with feeling sick.

With my third I found myself buying and devouring a packet of salt and vinegar crisps at about 9 o'clock one morning, and that immediately set off alarm bells.

TheBlueAndAmber · 23/02/2024 13:48

I fainted whilst talking to a neighbour in her garden!!
The GP said I had suffered what the Victorians used to call
“the Vapors” and it was fairly unusual in modern times. I was only about 3 weeks gone, but this was many years ago when you had to wait for first missed periods.

I'd forgotten my unquenchable desire for salt. All I wanted was hot salted McDonald's fries. With extra salt. They had to be literally gritty with it.

This happened to me whilst out shopping with my husband. He caught me as I sank to the ground in a faint

Biscuitsneeded · 23/02/2024 14:00

Really sore boobs, needed loads of wees and (with hindsight) cried about some ridiculous things.

weegiemum · 23/02/2024 14:06

First dc - took a test
Second dc - took a test
Third dc - had a very painful side effect of pregnancy that I'd suffered with when pg with dc2. So took a test! We weren't trying that time, in fact I had a mirena coil.

Bobskeleton · 23/02/2024 14:09

For my second pregnancy I had the "let down" breastfeeding feeling even though I had not bf for a few months

IggOrEgg · 23/02/2024 14:10

I started throwing up one evening and didn’t stop for the next ≈36 weeks 🙃

ComeHomeBeanie · 23/02/2024 14:11

I made myself a cup of tea and was instantly sick. I normally love tea but couldn't touch it throughout my pregnancies.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 23/02/2024 14:11

I have very, very irregular periods so found out "late" with DS (7 weeks). I woke up one morning after having 2 cocktails with dinner feeling like absolute death, ran to the bathroom and immediately threw up. I continued to feel like death and throw up until he was born.

With DD I had had a negative test 7 days after my period was "due" so was happily going all out in an all inclusive - I took a glug of my aperol spritz in the pool and it tasted absolutely rancid. Then I was hit with waves of pure exhaustion. Did another test when we got home and...pregnant.

2in13 · 23/02/2024 14:12

I had a dream that I was at work, opened my bag and there was a baby sitting in my backpack. No symptoms and period wasn't due yet.

Took a test the next day - positive.

Blue2020 · 23/02/2024 14:22

Technically it was the day after my period was due but each day from that point I naturally woke up at 4am for the day. I’m not a morning person. I was on holiday so I couldn’t test but I was 95% sure on day 2 of waking up early. Did a test when I got home 10 days later and it was positive.

Blue2020 · 23/02/2024 14:23

Oh I was only sure because I had the same thing in the previous pregnancy that ended up as a miscarriage.

The shopkeeper at my village shop told me I was pregnant! She noticed I was buying Bounty bars, which was what I did in my previous pregnancy. She was right - I was pregnant.

And with my first, I was working as a social worker and visited a very elderly single retired midwife - as I left, she congratulated me on my pregnancy - I said I was not pregnant - she assured me I was and wished me well - she was right of course.

Love these examples!

Upsidedowncat · 23/02/2024 14:25

Absolutely nothing. It was our first go and didn't expect it to happen so quick (obviously it can but you always hear it's uncommon..) so I took the test thinking it would surely be negative. To our surprise it wasn't!

gemmamusic · 23/02/2024 14:25

I was on the floor trying to do yoga to ease back pain. We’d been trying for a while and I was sick of the disappointments from testing, so refused to test when DP suggested it. Did a test the next day as I was heading out for day drinks with a friend and got a gut feeling that I should check I was ok to drink. Was still surprised even though I think I ‘knew’. But I’d ‘been sure’ before and was wrong!

neleh87 · 23/02/2024 14:26

I was having weird dreams as well! But didn't consider I might be pregnant until I missed my period. No symptoms until a few days later

This is how my friend found out too! She had a fainting spell on a hot day and thought she had just overheated and not drank enough water, she went to Dr just to be sure and the first thing he said was are you pregnant? He gave her a test to do in the toilets and it was positive. She turned out to be nearly 4 months! Don't ask me how she didn't know up until then!

First baby - no symptoms until period was late, took a test a few days later. Boy.

Second baby- before period was due , woke up one morning with unusual anxiety...I took a test straight away as it was so out of the blue. Girl.

hopingforthemillion · 23/02/2024 14:37

I couldn’t run up hills, completely out of breath. I was very far into marathon training so was fairly fit. Knew it was odd … still took another 10 days to get a positive test though!

second time round, I didn’t, just a few days late for my period and thought hmmmm, tested and was!

ManukaNourished · 23/02/2024 14:43

First pregnancy I got very strange fluttering heart palpitations which made me wonder if it was a possibility and I looked at a calendar then got a test and I was.

I didn't get that weird feeling in my chest again in my second pregnancy but I did need to go for an awful lot of wees. As I left my desk for the umpteenth time that day I said to a colleague, "I can't be pregnant, I'm on the pill". Famous last words 😊

TheBlueAndAmber · 23/02/2024 14:55

@108Anj

Quite spectacular and embarrassing at the same time isn’t it!?😁
I also used to fall asleep anywhere and was woken many times by concerned strangers… before I was ‘showing’ so heaven knows what they thought of me!
One of our young staff members at work starting being very very hungry , almost “wanting to take food off you” sort of hungry… us oldies kept asking her, are you ok, do you think you might be expecting? She insisted not.
She was!!

HeadsShouldersTitsandArse · 23/02/2024 15:00

With my first, none. I just tested as we were trying so I knew when to start testing.

With my second, I just felt better. I can’t really explain it but I felt more confident and just happier.

It was familiar feeling from my first pregnancy. I’ve never felt better than I did while pregnant, both time I just felt like a completely different person.
less anxiety (bizarre I know), way more confident, happier, more energy, more motivation.

We are done at 2 kids, but if I could be pregnant forever I would choose to be 😂
