I have had a symptom free pregnancy until last Saturday at 21 weeks I fainted suddenly and bashed my head on the floor. Called triage they weren't concerned said come back if happens again. I still felt rubbish (woozy and out of sorts) on Monday so went to docs had BP, heart rate and temp checked all normal blood pressure a little low but not of concern.
Doc said probably a virus and one off..today 10 days later I had another episode of faintness luckily recognised the signs this time and lay down before I actually passed out. Had some lucozade and a banana and felt better but had a headache for a few hours.
Now I'm worried I'll pass out while in a public place or worse driving..! Anyone else had this and can offer tips apart from sugary drinks/food.

Yes, me. Eat little and often and increase your fluid intake.

bashed your head and they said dont come in!
hope your okay

JRTfan · 20/02/2024 20:32

Thanks @MamaBearsss did you get a reason for it and did increasing fluids and eating little and often help? I already drink a lot and definitely eat regularly but I have started keeping lucozade and a snack by the bed for when I wake up as both incidences have been morning..
@redddssak yep pretty sure I had concussion as felt awful for a few days and had blurred vision. The bruise has only just faded 10 days later. I'm ok now though thanks just hoping it doesn't happen again!

I was told it’s normal, and to expect it in 2nd trimester. Midwife told me I need to get someone to put me in the recovery position and just stay there till I’m ok again if it happens. I feel more woozy if I’m hot, tired, dehydrated or haven’t eaten recently.
so eat little and often, dress in layers that I can remove, get fresh air, take breaks if I’m on my feet a lot, and drink lots of water. I can normally feel it coming on with quite a bit of notice really.
Really surprised they told you not to come in after you hit your head though

The reason is just pregnancy, it’s really common.

So just to update I went to the docs today and it's definitely not considered normal and something to just deal with. They did an ECG, the usual checks and blood tests. Also referred me to an obstetrician for a follow up. Chances are it's a sudden drop in blood pressure and may not be anything I can do but the doctor said it's definitely the right thing to do to get it checked as there are some conditions/problems that can be diagnosed and treated.

@JRTfan Hiya, how have you been during blood tests? I’m at 9 weeks and had my booking appointment today, and fainted while the midwife was taking my bloods. I’ve had a gazillion blood tests before and been a blood donor with no issues, so am slightly concerned that this might be a “fainty” pregnancy.

JRTfan · 22/02/2024 22:03

@Lillers absolutely fine I don't have any problems with medical procedures and am very used to having blood taken after multiple rounds of IVF..my fainting seems to happen at random times unfortunately with no apparent reason. Must have been scary for you but at least you were in the right place! Hopefully it won't happen again.

@JRTfan Thanks, that is useful to know because it suggests it’s not the same trigger. Yeah it was a bit scary, but more so for my husband who has told me I started fitting at one point. I had no idea what was going on! Definitely the right place for it to happen.

I hope you get some answers for yours soon and that it’s something really easy for them to treat.
