Help! Acid reflux!

I’ve been feeling a ‘lump’ in my throat for a few days and getting horrible acid reflux in my throat as well. I’m 33+3 and taking ferrous sulfate for iron deficiency and have been for about a month.

Any suggestions on relieving this? Googling seems to imply that taking antacids might interfere with the iron tablets. I’ve been drinking milk which helps briefly but it soon comes back again.

Ask your GP to prescribe you Omeprazole, that shouldn't interfere with iron tablets (but presumably they'll know if it does!). It has genuinely saved my life.

Thank you. I’ll ask about it.

I've been using Rennies which are safe in pregnancy but I'm not on iron tablets so best to check there's no interaction.

Worth speaking to your GP. I've taken omeprazole previously for acid reflux (although wasn't pregnant at the time) and it worked really well.

Bananas can also help a bit IME. Might be worth trying alongside the milk in the interim.

I have love heart sweets for heartburn and they work for me but not sure if they class as an antacid ?

I’ve taken some Rennie today when it’s become unbearable. It’s so miserable. 😩

I used to drink fizzy water, it helped with reflux.

You can take antacids with iron tablets, but leave a few hours in between the two. It really is miserable. I guzzled Gaviscon by the bottle. You can try not to eat foods known as triggers. Milk can offer some quick relief but it can actually have the opposite effect and cause your stomach to produce more acid.

Milk reduces iron absorption too, so you may as well take the antacids instead. Try to leave a couple of hours after your iron tablet but you should be fine after that.

Someone on here said tomato juice used to solve their heart burn ../ worth a try until you can get something off GO

Oh no! I’ve been drinking milk all day. 🤦‍♀️ I’m going to try and get to a pharmacy before work tomorrow and see if they can recommend something.

Thoroughly sick of being pregnant now! This is my third time and I have never felt this rubbish the whole time! There’s always something new to make me feel crap!

Omeprazole. Hands down. I took it from 28 weeks.

Love Hearts really do help. I ate a great many!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 19/02/2024 21:53

Wouldn’t have even thought about love hearts. I’ll get some when I’m out tomorrow. DD1 will eat them if they don’t help. 😂
