Early scan - empty sac. HELP

5w + 1, empty gestational sac. Sonographer said too early to see anything yet. Did anyone else have this & see a baby at next scan?

It’s usual to not see a fetal pole at that gestation, it’s too early. Did they see a yolk sac? Do you ageee with the dates being 5+1?

Dates are 5 + 1 so they are 100%. Yolk sac wasn't seen, no but the sonographer wasn't concerned & they have booked another scan for 2 weeks time.

If your dates are fine and the sonographer Isn’t concerned then it sound like a normal scan. Why did you have it so early? Usually 6 weeks minimum is recommended as there’s not much to see before then.

For comparison I had a scan at 5+3 (my dates on lmp made it later), could see yolk sac but no fetal pole. By 6+3 we saw the fetal pole and heart beat.

I had an early scan due to some spotting & pain which then stopped. My next one is booked for 7 + 2 so I am hoping to see something then. My bloods were 734 and then went up to 2082 within 48 hours, is this a good sign that something is growing?

I would always recommend 6.5 weeks for the first scan, I've seen so many people go in before then and either not see the structures or not see a heart beat, worry relentlessly but then things have turned out ok. Before that point the best outcome from a scan is to know it's an intrauterine pregnancy. I hope things look good on the next scan.

@daiseyduck unfortunately the bloods tell you very little, hcg is released from the placenta and the placenta could grow normally with very good hcg levels despite there being a blighted ovum.

Yes me I had this at 5+1 they saw a sac and what they thought could be the start of fetal pole. 5+6 there was a heartbeat. I was having red bleeds hence the scans being v early. 33+4 now 😊 x

They wouldn't scan me before 7 weeks as they said it could be unlikely they saw anything before then

I had this. I had an early scan. Couldn't see anything inside the sac. Had another scan a few days later and saw the yolk sac. Was so worried but it all worked out in the end. In hindsight 5+1 is very early. My baby girl is now almost 12 weeks. Don't lose hope. Good luck x
